Mix ingredients and pour Into but tered, medium sized baking pan and bake 30 minutes In moderate oven. Unmold and surround with savory sauce. Savory Sauce (For fish or meat loaves) 3 tablespoons butter S tablespoons flour 1 1-3 cups milk yA teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons chopped plmlentos J. tablespoon chopped celery 14 cup cooked peas. Melt butter arid add flour. When blended, add milk and cook until creamy sauce forma. Stir constantly Add rest of Ingredients and cook two minutes. Pour over loaf. Sweet Potatoes Dixie a boiled sweet potatoes (large) 1 egg yA teaspoon salt yA teaspoon paprika 3 tablespoons cream 1 teaspoon butter 4 marshmallows. Mash potatoes and add egg and sea sonings. Add cream and butter. Beat well and roughly pile Into buttered baking dish. Top with marshmal' lows and bake 15 minutes In mode rate oven. Serve In dish in which baked. yA teaspoon paprika 1 tablespoon chopped parsley )4 teaspoon celery salt 4 tablespoons butter a cups milk. Mix potatoes with seasonings. Add rest of ingredients and pour into buttered baking dish. Bake 60 min utes in moderate oven. Chocolate Cottage Pudding. 3 cups pastry flour 8 teaspoons baking powder a-3 cup sugar teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla a eggs a-S cup milk a squares chocolate, melted 4 tablespoons Ut, melted. Mix Ingredients and beat 2 min utes. Pour Into shallow pan lined with waxed paper. Bake ao minutes in moderate oven. Cut in squares and serve fresh with cream of vanilla sauce. FORMER SHERIFF OF LA GRANDE, Or., Not. 3. (Jfy ' John H. McLachlen, former sheriff of Union county and chief of police In LaGrande for many years, died here Thursday at the age of 82. Ten days ago he fell from a tree while picking apples, breaking three ribs. His Injuries and the shock caused his death. McLachlen headed the posse which captured the slayers of TU Taylor, sheriff of Umatilla county, several years ago. Funeral services will be held In LaGrande tomorrow. Fit Into small baking pan Top with remaining ingredients, add a lid ano bake one hour in moderate oven. Turn chops to allow even cook ing. Apple Rings. 4 apples 1 cups sugar' 1 cup water 18 whole cloves 1 stick bark cinnamon Red fruit coloring 3 tablespoons vinegar Wash apples. Cut In one-half Inch crossway slices. Remove cores. Do not ceel apple rings. Mix sugar, wa ter and spices. Boll 3 minutes. Add red coloring to give the desired tint. Add vinegar. Add apples and bake one hour in moderate oven. Cream Pie. 1 baked pie shell cup sugar 5 tablespoons flour teaspoon salt 3 egg yolks 1 cups milk 1 teaspoon vanilla teaspoon lemon extract 3 egg whites, beaten 5 tablespoons confectioner's sugar. Blend cup of sugar with flour. Add salt, yolks and milk. Cook in double boiler until mixture becomes thick and creamy. Stir frequently while cooking. Add extracts and pour into baked pie shell. Beat whites and add the confectioner's sugar. Beat until creamy. " Roughly spread over pie ruling and bake 13 minutes In slow oven. The dead were trapped on the roof and top floor of the building after the fire spread rapidly from the ground floor.
