as the nude ran dancer of the Cen
tury of Progress exposition, perform
ed her dance on the stage at the Para
mount theater laat night, clad In i
t ut of long flannel underwear.
Mies Rand encased her now famous
torao In the flannels after the thea
ter had been warned by the city
license commissioner that Its license
would be revoked unless the fan
dancer wore more clothing.
Earlier the blonde dancer had an
nounced defiantly that she would
wear flannel drawers If the city per.
elsted In "persecuting" her.
At the same time she cast grave
doubts on the artlstlo sense of her
chief critic, Doe rue CommUsloner
Sidney S. Kvlne, who ordered that
she wesr more clothing beneath her
swishing ostrich plumes.
Obedient to the edict, Bally dsnced
onto the stage, manipulating her
fsns with such dexterity that no one
in the audience knew she was wear
ing anything. She continued through
the entire dance without exposing
her costume.
Then, with dramatic suddenness,
she stood before the audience and
brought the fans away from her body
with a swish. The audience gaapen
aat stupefied, then burst Into ronrs
of laughter.
HELD IN THEFT
Jack Gibson, also known as Jack
Anderson. 37, la being held In the
olty Jail on charges of petty larceny
and tomorrow will be taken before
Judge A. D. Curry In city court for
allegedly stealing a bill from an
envelope In a milk bottle at the W. S.
Bolier residence.
Gibson, according to Chief of Po
lice Clatous McCredle, was raking
leaven from the lawn at the Bolger
home, 34 Rosa court, between fi:30
and 1:30 o'clock, and w.hen he dis
appeared before the Job was com
pleted the money was missing from
the envelope containing the bill, al
though the envelope had been re
turned to the bottle.
The young man waa arrested by
city police and 4.3 was found In
his possession. He told officers he
had found the bill "six reet from
the curb." He said he spent 69 cents
for breakfsat and cigarettes.

DEFER SENTENCE

SALEM. Oct. 12. (AP)-Sontence
was deferred when Albert Q. Malzela,
33, pleaded guilty to appropriating
for hi own use $2061 state money.
In circuit court here yesterday.
Malnels appeared without counsel
and wAived preliminary hearing and
grant Jury Indictment. District At
torney William Trlpdle asked that
sentence be suspended until auditors
could report on the exact shortage In
the state board of control collection
department where Malzels was in
charge. Trtndle said It was lyaleels'
first offense.

Steps for administration of the -tates
of two southern Oregon pio
neers have been taken In probata
court the past week.
Michael F. Hanley, Jr., tu yester
day named administrator of the es
tate of the late Michael P. Hanley. Sr..
who left no will. The widow waived
the right. The estate value of per
sonal property Is estimated at $8,800
and Is exclusively of land holdings.
John 8. Orth of Fort Klamath,
Thomas L. Farlow of Lake Creok and
William T. Grieve of Prospect long
time friends of the deceased are
named as appraisers.
State Senator Oeorge W. Dunn of
Ashland, a son, la named adminis
trator of the estate of Mary M. Dunn,
southern Oregon pioneer, who recent
ly pawed away at the age of 97 years.
Three daughters Mrs. Elizabeth Van
Sant of Portland, Mrs. Ottilia Cald
well of Eugene, and Mrs. Ella D. Rice
of Portland and Senator Dunn are
listed as the heirs. There was no
will.
The personal property estimate 1s
30,000. Thomas H. Simpson, J. W.
McCoy and W. H. McNalr, all resi
dents of Ashland, are listed as ap
praisers of the estate.
CIVIL CASE TAKES
The first of the civil suits, listed
for the southern Oregon term of the
federal court. Federal Judge James
A. Fee presiding, was underway to
day. It was the action of B. R. Warren
against the Forest Lumber company
of Klamath county for 176,000 alleged
damages. The suit grows out of an
accident at the mill of the defend
ants, wherein It Is claimed that War
ren sustained permanent Injuries to
his legs from scalding steam.
Warren Is represented by Lord &
Moul ton of Portland; the defendant
by Nicholas Jaureguy and Charles R.
Spackman, Jr., of Portland.
