Conrsd at the home of Mabel Helm roth on October 17. Roosevelt Home School circle Meets. The Roosevelt Home School Circle, under the direction of Mrs. C. C. Darby, president, opened their activi ties for the present school term at Roosevelt school Friday at 8 p. m. A large attendance greeted the open ing session, 63 members being present. A very delightful, as well as Inter esting program, featured an address by Mra. G. L. Hopkins, who gave eome very timely suggestions on "Wise TJse of Our leisure time." Another well received number was a musical reading, efficiently rendered by Miss Jesnett Fields. The pupils of rooms SB, 3A and 9B, undr the able direc tion of their teacher, Mrs, Russell, gave well chosen selections. Much Interest waa shown In the formulating of the plans for the school year activities. R Satchwell on Aahland avenue last Friday after noon. The annual election of officers for the coming year was held. Mrs. A. F. Stennett was named president; Mrs, 0. 0. Murray, vice-president; Mrs. R. W. Frame, ' treasurer, and Mrs M. M. Herman, secretary. The guild has planned a very act ive calendar for the coming year, and tflo first event will be a card party by the newly elected officers at St. Mark's parish house Friday, Oct. ober lath, at 3 o'clock. Degree of Honor Has Costume Party The Degree of Honor members en Joyed a costume party last week af ter the regular business meeting, when they were Joined by friends at Labor Union hall. The evening's program Included ft piano solo by Lewis Parker, a read ing by Mamie Seller, vocal solo by Bessie Hunter; trio, Ads B. Seller, Mrs. Ida M. Wilson and Mrs. Elliott. Cherokee Seller also entertained with a vocal solo, and In tfie grand march for costume Judging, first honors went to Ada B Seller, who repre sented ft gypsy. Mr. Wilson, insur ance manager, furnished fun from the grab bag. The remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing, af ter which refreshments were served. Plans were announced for a card party to be held November 3. i Christian Church Society Enjoys Wednesday Session ' The Recreational hall of the First Christian church was the meeting plaoe of the Women's Missionary soc iety, Wednesday afternoon. During the brief business session preceding the presentation hour, the president. Mrs. Allen Curry, announc ed that ten new members had been added to the society during the past month. The worship period was led by Mrs. J. O. Isaacson of Central Point, the theme being "He Went About Teach ing, P reaching and Healing," based on the Scripture found In Math, 4:32-35. Mrs. Fred Wllmot led in prayer. The toplo for the afternoon was "The Country Places of America,' and dealt with the work of the Christian churches among the Neg roes, Indians and mountain people. After an introductory talk by the leader, Mrs. R. L. Ray, Mrs. W. R. Balrd and Mrs. Saunders told of the negro schools and colleges being sup ported by the Disciples of 'hrlst. Mrs. Prick told of the labors of a number of prominent negroes who were educated at these Institutions. Pour schools for the mountain peo ple are supported by the United Christian Missionary society. Mrs. Wllmot and Mrs. J. T. Davis ' told of thla work. In a very Interesting way, Mrs, Davis told of some of her own personal experience among the people of the Ozark mountains. During the program, Mrs. Dodge resd ft very beautiful poem entitled, "Life's Weaving.' The hidden answers, as found In World Call, were presented by Mrs. Mabel Marsh. American Ideals Need Re-defining, Club Told Last week the Wednesday Study club began Its 26th year with a pro gram devoted to "Exploring the Times." Mrs. B. G. Harding with the toplo, "American Ideals Should Be Rede fined," confined the discussion to economic Ideals. She high-lighted machines, free competition, standards of living and ownership. "The Great Technology," by Harold Rugg, was the chief source from which Mrs. Harding quoted and her comprehen sive presentation of the subject set a high standard for the year's work. Mrs, W. E. Crews Interpreted the book, "Time to Live" by Hambrldge In a most sympathetic way. Lovely Setting For Missionary Luncheon The five o'clock missionary lunch eon held In the parlors of the First M. E. church Tuesday was served in an attractive setting of flowers and dainty table decorations. A goodly number of guests and mem bers were present. The afternoon exercises were opened with devotions led by Miss Phlpps In ft worship service. Topic: "Let There Be LlgM." A hymn sung in concert with pray er following, closed the exercises. Mrs. Wiley presided during the business session. 'Mrs. Conklin. as treasurer, gave the yearly financial report. The president paid ft lov ing tribute to the memory of Mrs. Emma Mlneor. In respect to her the afternoon program was very brief. Mrs. Hernson, ft visitor, reported on the district meeting held In Klamath Falls September 21. Miss Cook Tells Wedding Date at Wednesday Party The date for her wedding to Vester Bradford of this city was announced by Miss Ruby Cook at a lovely ahower given Wednesday evening by Mrs. A. O. Thompson at her borne, honoring the bride-elect and her fiance. The wedding will be solemnized at the Pull Gospel church Saturday, Octo ber 21. Twenty-eight gueste were Invited to the Thompson home for the Wed nesday shower and many lovely gifts were received by the couple. The evening was devoted to games, after which refreshments were served at the table, beautifully decorated In flowers and tapers, carrying out a colof scheme of pink and orchid. Perry Tuesday, October 10, at 1 o'clock for cover ed dlah luncheon. Each guest Is asked to bring her own table serv ice. Members will respond to roll call by telling in story or verse how she earned the one dollar pledge. Tuesday will be guest dsy for the circle end each' member Is asked to make a special effort to attend the meeting. Lincoln Service t'l'ib Hears Fine Program. An Interesting program was pre sented Friday at the meeting of the Lincoln School service club, headed by Mrs. Charles Lumen. Mrs. E. E. Gore, local piano In structor, gave a program of children's piano work, showing the fundamental and educational work back of the playing. The program, played by the children, Included "Sol Feggetto" by Bach, "Gavotte" by Godard. "Largo From the New World Symphony" by Dvorak and "Cotton Pickers" by Wright. Stanley Gustln and Dorla Lee An derson gave a demonstration In trans position and ear training, as done In clsss work. Three action songs were presented by pupils of Miss Tuckers room and Mrs. Howard Glascock gave an Inter esting talk on the study of the mod ern mother. The buslneas meeting, preceding the program, waa attended by 36 members of the club. Circle Society Has Interesting Meeting An enjoyable meeting of the Circle society of the First Christian church was held Tuesday evening, October 3. Leonard Klein's division was in charge of the program. Adrian Fra ley, Helen Smith and Gerald Lath am gave Interesting talks. Dorothy Culy played a piano solo, which was very much enjoyed. Reverend Balrd gave a talk on Dr. Byrlee of Af rica. After the program various games were played under the supervision of Virginia Gregory.
