equal consumption needs, limited only
toy production capacity,"
"Technocracy Is not a philosophy
of despair," says Loeb, "but a state
of despslr will exist among the peo
ple before they turn to technocracy
for guidance"
Scott looks out of the window and

Meier's Relief Committee
Says Huge Sum Could Be
Realized When Dry Re
peal Becomes Effective
PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 14 (T)
A tax on liquor In the event the
18th amendment U repealed, and a
tax on the receipts of various sport
were among the suggestions submit
ted by the ways snd means sub
committee of Governor Meier's relief
committee of 32, at its meeting here
1st Wednesday.
The committee was given the task
of determining the most feasible
means of raining sufficient revenue
to carry on Oregon's unemployment
relief program until the end of 193.
The amount needed has been esti
mated as high as $17,000,000.

John Beckman, author of the Beck
man Hquor bill in the last session
of the state legislature, appeared be
fore the committee with an estimate
that beer can stand a tax of $1 a
barrel In addition to the W a barrel
federal tax. He suggested light wines
could he taxed up to 40 cents a gal
lon. His estimate was that the state
could realize a minimum of 12,250,-
000 annually from the taxation of
liquor, Including 1,000,000 for beer,

lowship of faiths was told by Henry
S. Huntington, one of the founders of
the International nudist conferenoe,
that nudism was "breaking off the

burg residents were aroused this
afternoon by news that s dog poisoner
is scattering poisoned candy In vari
ous parts of the city. Officers Issued
a public warning to parents, as sam
ples of the candy were gathered for
chemical tests.
More than a score of dogs, some of
them valuable animals, hare been
killed by poison during the past
week, the operations of the poisoners
extending to all parts' of the city.
The counter, mirrors and other
equipment of the Klondike restaurant
in Brook field, Mo., were wrecked by
the explosion of a keg of beer.
