Much of the fruit was undamaged and was recovered, but children, re turning from school, soon found 'that the remaining tomatoes made excel lent ammunition. LPT. postponement has been made to give moro t:me for work In the fruit. The staff of teachers is now com plete with the selection of Dennis McOuire to fill the science and ath letic position. UP) Rapid Improvement In retail trade conditions on the Pacific coast dur ing August la Indicated by the cur rent report of the 8an Francisco board of trade. The board's review of cases of financial embarrassment shows an accelerating decline In these troubles during recent months. Cases where the board had to step In to protect the Interests of Its members who have extended credit to retailers amounted to 2.149 throughout the Pacific elope the first eight months of this year. The de cline from the 3.100 cases In the same portion of 1933 was 1.041, or 33 per cent. The falling off In cases brought before the board was much more rapid In August. The cases number ed only 197, compared with 358 In August last year. The July difficul ties totaled 318 cases compared with . 343 in July, 1933. A. J. Falk, president, said: "It Is significant that the improve. ment In both business end credits among the wholesalers and retailers keeps pace with the N. R. A. pro. gram." SIGN WHEAT PACT WASHINGTON. Sept. 8 (AP) The cumber of farmers who have signed applications to Join In the wheat re duction campaign today stood at well over 20,000. The farm adjustment admlnlstra' tlon announced that applications lor wheat contracts had been signed by growers in all wheat growing states and made public plans for intensive efforts to complete organization. Members of the administration's wheat section will conduct meetings In six wheit growing states between now and September 13. The dates for the conferences in clude: Spokane. Sept. 11 and- 13, at which state extension directors and others Interested will be represented from Washington. Oregon, Idaho and Montana George B. Parrel, association chief of the farm administration's wheat section, said that "no definite date for closing the sign-up campaign has been set." T ASHLAND. Sept. 8. (Spl.) A broken neck was suffered Wednesday afternoon by W. W. Robinson of Tal ent, who fell from a load of hay at his ranch near Talent. Mr. Robinson was pulling on a rope trip for the hay fork while on top of the load and the rope broke, letting him fall to the ground, a distance of 10 feet, striking his head and shoulder as he fell, and Injuring bis spine. He was rushed to the Community hospital at Ashland by ambulance for treatment. Mr. Robinson, has been In consider able pain since the accident. An X-ray made today determined the extent of the injuries suffered, 10 MEET PHOENIX, Sept. 8. (Spl.) Jackson County Pomona Orange will meet at the Phoenix Orange hall Saturday night. All members of the fourth degree are qualified to attend the Pomona meetings and therefore all Phoenix Orange members are urged to be pres ent. A good attendance Is looked for from outside districts. A program will be furnished by some of the grangers, planned by Mrs. O. C. Maust, Pomona lecturer. Several members of the Phoenix Orange attended the meeting of the Eagle Point Orange Tuesday night.
