DRUG CODE PLANS
CUT PRICE CURB
WASHINGTON, Aug. 26. (AP) A
far reaching plan to guarantee retail
sales at or near factory fixed prices
was presented to the recovery ad
ministration today by the Mtlon'a
druggists at the conclusion of their
hearing on a code of fair competi
tion.
The plan, embodies in the tentative
code, provides that no retailer cf
drugs or cosmetics could sell auch
goods at a discount of more than 21
per cent of the retail price set on
them by the manufacturer. For
instance. If an article was marked 91
by the manufacturer, tt could not be
sold at retail for leaa than 79 cent.
The proposal was aimed at cut
throat price cutting, not only aa prac
ticed by some drug stores, but by
others which sell what the druggists
defined as their goods. Thus, vir
tually all goods having to do with
health, would be sold under this price
agreement, aa would face powders,
toothpaste, perfumes and' some foods,
many of which are sold In depart
ment stores, beauty shops, stationers'
shops and so on.
