Thursday French Cafe to Be Feature Drum Corps Vie Friday . August 10 will e the highways, airways and railroad leading to Klamath Fall, the American Lesion State convention cut, tilled with traffic. Thousand of Legionnaires, mem bers of the Auxiliary and many other Tlaltora from all parta of the coast will gather In southern Oregon Au gust 10. 11 and 13. for the 19th an nual Oregon State convention. Prom present Indications the attendance will break all records and the Klam ath conclave will assume the propor tions of a Pactfla Coast convention. Callfornlans Coming. Klamath Palls' atrateglc location, a few miles north of the state bound ary between Oregon and California, assures the largest attendance of California Legionnaires ever partici pating In an Oregon state conven tion. Hundreds of the "native sons" hare already planned to be present and to bring with them several drum corps to participate In the parades and street stunts. The fact that the California Legion convenlon will be held In Psssdena this year has made It prohibitive for many northern California Legion and Auxiliary mem bera to make the long trip south; hence their decision to take part In the Oregon convention. Klamath Plans Big Time. 1 After many months of preparation tea big three-day convention pro gram Is complete from start to fin ish. The members of Klsmath post No. ( and the Auxiliary, aided oy the entire cltlnensblp of Klamath county have been working diligently for several months to perfect every detail of the elaborate entertainment schedule which la bound to score a hit with every visitor. Starting Thursday morning, Au gust 10, and continuing through Sat urday night, the Klamath veterans promise that there will be something doing every minute of the three days and nights. Among the high snots of the con vention program will be the state championship Legion drum corps con test, the official convention parade, the atate ohamplonshlp Junior base ball tournament, midnight matinee, big time wrestling card. "40 et 8" Orande Wreck, Auxiliary atate music contest, water carnival and speed boat regstta and a big free barbecue. In addition, there will be street stunts and open air entertainment at all hour of the day and night. Stirring martial music by 15 drum corps and bands will provide plenty of pep for the World War veterans as they again march together In the official convention parade at 0 p. m Thursday. The big parade will be held at night this year for the first time, and will be a spectacular event with torchlights, flares and red fire throughout the line of march. The night parade also will insure cool comfort for the spectators as well aa those who participate In this col orful Legion procession. Champion Corps Coming. Among the outstanding musical organisation to be heard at the Klamath convention will be the fam ous Salem drum corps, winners of the state and National champion ships In 1033. and headed by the national champion drum major, Chaa Whlttemore. The Salem corps will not compete In the state contest this year, but will appear In special exhibition and the convention parade. Many other well known drum corps and bands from all part of Oregon and north ern California will assist In creating typical military atmosphere found only at an American Legion conven tion. Judging from the amount of in terest already displayed, not only throughout Oregon but In other western state as well, the attendance at the Klamath convention will be the largest In the history of the state. O'Connell, Jr. Strewl Acted as go-between In delivering the 40,000 ransom money and arranging for young O'Connell 'a release. Delaney aald Strewl would be ar rested at Montlcello. N.
