Central Tel. 361 OF ROOSEVELTS Christian Mission Group Has Meeting Devoted To Books A pleasant and profitable after noon waa enjoyed by the membera of the Woman's Missionary society of the First Christian church, at their meeting which was held In the Recre ational hall on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. A short bualness meeting preceded the regular program, with the presi dent, Mrs. Allen Curry, in the chair. The presentation hour waa In charge of group II, with Mrs. Fred Oerard aa chairman. The general topic wna "Old Booka and New"; this waa the annual meeting for the dis cussion of missionary books. Mrs. F. A. Oregory led the devo tional period, the theme being, "Come ye apart to pray"; the scrip ture reference waa Mark 1:35; 6:31. Mra. J. T. Davis, who haa been literature secretary of the local soci ety for a number of years, gave a most helpful talk on the booka now In tha missionary library, and the new books which the society expects to soon add to this list. Other talks followed on the value snd place of good booka and their Influence In the home; these were given by Mrs. Gertrude Klrkpatrlck and Mra. E. R. Cobb. A dramatl station of the atory of two mountain girls, followed, the parts being taken by lone Kindred, and Martha Ruth Devore. Mra. Fisher, a charter member of the Medford Christian church spoke briefly of the organisation of the first missionary society, which waa In the spring of 1893, with a mem bership of fifteen. The big parade will be held Thursday evening. The drum corps contest Is to be Friday evening so these are the two big events and many people from Medford and vicinity will be present. Clemenson, and Robert D. Por ter, son of Dr. and Mrs. B. H. Porter, all of this city. The wedding ser vice was solemnized by the Rev. Grlmmett of the Grants Pass Methodist-church. The bride waa charming In an afternoon dress of white crepe and carried a bouquet of delicately col ored roses and snapdragons. She waa attended by Mra. Herman New- land of Medford, who wore blue and carried a bouquet of aummer flowers In harmonizing colors. E. H. Porter, brother of the groom, waa his best man. Eighteen relatives and Immediate friends of the couple attended the ceremony, which waa followed by sup per on the lawn with Mrs. Wm. Clem enson presiding, assisted by Mra, Hampson, sister of the groom. The Japanese lanterns were lighted for the supper hour, offering a lovely color scheme, reflected In tha river. Following the informal reception, Mr. and Mrs. Porter left for ft motor trip after which they will make their home at Mr. Porter's orchard on the Crater lake blghwny Both the bride and groom are popular members of the younger set here. 'Mrs. Porter, however, had re cently made her home In San Fran cisco, having returned to Medford Tuesday for the wedding. Wenonah Club Haa Pleasant Party The Wenonah club met Thursday at the home of Wtlma Hayes for cov ered dish luncheon. Holds Regular Meeting The Women's Relief Corps held a meeting Thursday afternoon at the Armory with a good attendance. After the business meeting Mrs. Andrus surprised the members by serving a large birthday cake and lemonade. The next social will be held August 17th at the home of Mra. Andrus at 510 South Fir St. Wentonka Council Has Pleasant Meeting An enjoyable meeting was held t Redman hall last Friday evening by Wea tonka Council, No. 30, of the Order of Pocahontas. It being the last meeting of the month, birthdays were celebrated and presents given to Evelyn Knudson, Irene Shirley, Lena Gunther, Sarah Davis. Wilms Hayes and Mattle Luman. The attendance prize was won by Mattle Luman.
