It was reported to the Chamber of Commerce this morning by Mrs. Maude Snider of Snider Dairy ti Produce Co. that the firm raised the wages of its employes on June 15 10 per cent and another Increaso Is scheduled for August 1. Inasmuch aa the Snider Dairy & Produce Co. employs 20 people, yiis means that considerably more money will be placed Into tho channels of trade. Attorney Wllklna said that Pehl asked him to repeat his opinion to Banks, and that a day or two later he did so, in Pehl's presence. The witness rurther testified that Pehl told him "Jennings will never be sheriff.". At another .meeting In the Banks home, Pohl remorked that the ballot pouches were lying on the floor In the clerk's orflce, and that keys were In one or two or the. locks, and that the attention of the grand Jury had been called to them. Former Pehl Aide. Before Attorney Wllklna was allowed to testify, the defense questioned him at length, whether or not he whs Pehl's attorney, during tho period, to which he waa testifying, and Wll klns sstd he was not. ' The defense hinted -that he was, and his testi mony was revesllng confidential and proresslonal matter, contrary to legal ethics. Attorney Wllklns testified thst con. versatlons with Banks and Pehl were held at Banks home last December, when the recount waa discussed In detail, and Pehl ssld he had advised Schermerhorn's recount contest. Pehl asked ror details on the recount lawa and proceedings. Attorney Wllklns said he had pre sented a bill ror $100 to Pehl ror services rendered In the Lamkln-Bur-scll contest, snd thst he had pre sented a bill to Schermerhorn, but It was repudlsted, as Schermerhorn said Pehl "has nothing to do with It." County Clerk George Carter teatl- fled that when Pehl was Informed of the ballot robbery, the . morning alter, in the presence of Commission ers R. E. Nealon and Ralph Billings, the wltncs, and Pehl, the defendant "was not Interested." The answer was stricken, on defense objections. Pehl Indifferent, The witness waa aaked to detail Pehl's demesnor, and aald "he seemed Indifferent." Tnis answer wss also ordered stricken. Clerk Csrter testified that Pehl had opposed the appointment of ?. nlght- watenman for tne Jackson county courtnouse following the robbery, but one was named.
