evening at 7:15 o'clock, near the Cum
min gs gardens on the old Midway
road, was reported today at the city
police station. Mrs. Helen Newman
of route two, and Hattie Starkey of
.3211 West Tenth street were driving
the two cara. Mrs. Nellie James of
Ashland, riding in one of the cars,
suffered a gish on the forehead.

headquarters last evening, and will
be on duty at the Elk Creek camp,
it was announced today. Also re
porting was Lieutenant W. Fulltrup

Arrives Here Lieutenant R. M.
Cheal, 30th Infantry, from the Pre
sidio at San Francisco, was a visitor
at Medford CCC headquarters today.
He will be stationed . at Wolf Creek
camp, which is soon to be transferred

Fines Suspended Charged with op
erating trucks with Improper licenses,
three Medford men were taken into
Justice court this morning by state
police. Each was fined $5 and costs of
Usf,0, which was suspended In all
t,r cases. The men were Everett
(P. Hutchlngs, Charlea W. Bunch and
CI eve C. Tye. They were arrested
Monday on the prater Lake highway,;
hauling supplies to a CCC camp in
that district.

were withheld by police, were lodged

they were arrejted. each with a pound
of butter they hed stolen from a

Woolen Mills, stated today that he
had been purchasing a number of
clips m the Rogue River and Willam
ette valleys, including a 30.000 pound
purchse of mohair in the Willamette
country. Mr. Nelson stated that the1
prevnt wool season Is nearly closed.

the Farmers Co-operative exchange,

In the welter of divorce rumora cir
culating about him and.Almee Semple

Paris.
The evangelist's husband threw back
the heavy drapes which have darken
ed the windows of the temple parson
age since he went away and turned
to remark to a group of listeners.
'"I've learned a lot In the past
couple of weeks and as a result I'm
not going to either deny or affirm
anything. Probably, If I got a divorce.
I wouldn't go as far aa Nevada. I
might stay right here. But mind,
you, I'm not talking about anything."
The rumors had speculated upon
the possibility thst a divorce might
be sought in Reno.

LONDON, June 27 (AP) An agree,
ment was reached late today between
Dr. HJalmar Schacht, president of the
Relchs bank, and Germany's long
term creditors by which the Germans
pledged payment of "something" In
Interest on all long term coupons as
they are due.
The amount to be paid will be an
nounced by Dr. Schacht from Berlin
Friday. The Interest on the Dawes
and Young plan loans will be met, as
previously sgreed, but the question
of the Young sinking fund still Is
unsettled.-

Southern Pacific Co. announced
today It waa speeding up its working
schedule In shops, putting 3953 men
on a 8-day week, and replacing the
3-day week which has been In effect
about 3 years. The new schedule be
came effective today.
The faster schedule of operations
in shops. It was explained, has been
necessitated by Increased passenger
TURKEY GROWERS IN
SLAP AT RAILROADS
ROSEBURO, June 27 (iAP) Be
cause railroads reputedly declined to
lower the transcontinental rate from
$3 a hundred pounds, to 93, the
Northwest Turkey Growers associa
tion Monday notified headquarters of
the Oregon Turkey Growers' here that
it has decided to move the bulk of
the 1933 tonnage by water and truck
lines.

Reduction of his $30,000 ball waa
denied by Federal Judge A. F. St.
Sure today to H. A. DeVaux, former
president of the Yreka railroad, who
is awaiting trial on a charge of con
verting proceeds from a bond sale to
bis own use.
DeVaux waa arrested In Houston,
Tex., eight months ago, and recently
waa acquitted In Los Angeles of sim
ilar charges growing out of the sale
of bonds In his railroad company.
He Is In Jail In default of ball.

TOKYO, June 37 (AP) Ganges
Island, shown on maps of the Pacific
ocean at 30.57 degrees north latitude,
154.10 degrees east longitude, has dis
appeared, according to Japanese naval
surveyors who have just completed
an extensive hydrographlc cruise.
They reported a thorough survey
was made of the Magelhaes Archipe
lago without a trace of the island.
Ganges Is shown near the steamship
route from Yokohama to Honolulu,
about a quarUn of the distance from
the Japanese port. The total distance
Is 8,445 nautical miles.
The Megallan. or Magelhaes Archi
pelago, which includes Ganges Island,
extends from the southern Japanese
coast about half way to Hawaii.
The Times Atlas says they are
mostly .uninhabited. Aman's Gaze
teer says they are all uninhabited ex
cept for Peel Island, largest of the
Bonln group. The Bonln group was
recognized as belonging to Japan In
1861, after which few American and
British settlements disappeared.
The main Islands of the Archipelago
are a considerable distance from
Ganges, which Is comparatively lso
lated.

The assurance of President Roosevelt
that "no man who has been handi
capped In after life by his service to
his country shall be forgotten or un
rewarded to the fullest extent that
our financial condition permlta" waa
before the convention of the Disabled
American Veterans today.
"You may have no fear," aald the
president In a telegram, "that anv
thlng has been done which will bar
any war sufferer from the grateful
recognition of his country."
National Commander William Con
ley, of Los Angeles, has criticized the
Roosevelt policies affecting disabled
service men.
The women's auxiliary of the D. A.
V. heard Its commsnder, Mrs. Frelda
Mooney, of Callforla, point to "the
chasm that yawns before the bene
fits and rights of your loved ones."

June 27 (AP) Fogbound tor the

Roosevelt loafed shout the Amber Jack
n today as he awaited a visit from
Norman H. Davis, America's roving
ambassador.
Davis left Boston last night on the
destroyer Bernadou, which waa pok
ing her way northward through the
fog at about 10 knots. The chief ex
ecutive was hoping the destroyer
would arrive before darkness made It
impossible to enter this little harbor.
Davis Is expected to give the presi
dent a first hand account of the de
liberations of the Geneva disarma
ment conference, which he attended
as head of the American delegation.
The Bernadou also Is bringing
Marvin H. Mclntyre, one of the presi
dent's secretaries and James Roose
velt, son of the president, who made
a swift trip to Boston to participate
in the state convention for repeal of
the 18th amendment.
After a late breakfast cooked by
Oeorge Briggs, one of the crew mem
bers. President Roosevelt spent a
couple of hours studying wireless re
ports from Washington outlining the
progress of national affairs.

General W. B. Lindsay, who com
manded the Royal Cantdlsn engineers
at the battle of Vlmy ridge In the
World war, was found dead today, ap
parently a victim of heart disease.
The Southern Baptist convention
has adopted a budget of 1905.000 for
foreign missions for the current year
but estimates Its income will not ex
