Sales of first cubes were mostly Wo pound below established quota tions on the exchange, which liter ally meana Me loss considering han dling charges. As yet no change was noted In butterfat. Market for eggs continued to re ject a weak undertone with the bulk of local sales 1 to 2c dozen below prices established by local co-ops. The difference between the top price and the buying price on currant re ceipts was too great. Slowness was generally reflected In the market for live chickens, even though tfiere was no further price change for the day. The surprising demand for dressed turkeys which has continued gener ally this season for a longer period than ever before known, was still keeping prices on a rather firm be ats and eapedally for fair quality hens. Supply of strawberries remained In adequate to take care of demand, with quality generally mediocre. Here and there some selected stuff wss available and sold quickly at 2.30 crate which was also the top for Clark seedling. There was an overstock of country killed spring lambs in the local trade, and not only were prices lower but there was sufficient stock In sight . to fill demand for perhaps a week. f With receipts Increasing, sales of California apricots were alow here, although quality was good and prices low. The lack of northwest supply was expected to atlmulte demand somewhat for the southern offerings. There continued much excitement In the market for tomatoes. Wblle the local hothouse stock was In chief call and at full recent prices, late outdoor stock from west Texas has been quite good and prices were higher. Easier tone was showing generally In the market for cabbage. Mot only was there an Increasing local supply as well. as from The Dalles, bu Cali fornia, wss still shipping. Delzell of Klamath Falls was a local bual ness visitor yeaterdsy. He knowi, tils bfr Vow to make it. how to drink It. and he recom mends Medford water as best for the brew Louis P. Kappler of Sacra mento, California, here as brewmas ter for the Medford brewery now under construction. His knowledge of beer and It making he has gained from heredity, education and environment, so to speak, for his father was one of the world's great brewers. "Louis" at tended the Wahl Henlus brewing school In Chicago in 1903 and 1904 and since the age of 17 he has been brewing, which means over a period of 40 years, with the alcohol out during the prohibition era. Charles Kappler, father of Louis, was the brewer of the famous Etna beer at Etna Mills, Cal.. where he established a brewery back In 1870. In 1909. speaking of hla product the United states Health bulletin de scribes it as reaching "a high degree of perfection, from ita care In pre Daratlon. Its freedom from adultera- Itlon, the purity of water used in Its manufacture and the aanltary ana hygienic methods employed in the handling of It." Again In 1911. the United States Health department bulletin refers to the Etna beer, then brewed by nr. Kappler, who la here to brew Med ford's beer, "We recommend," the re port reads, "the product of this brewery to the public." The beer Mr. Kappler stated today waa tested In New York. All waa sent to the laboratories without the knowledge of the brewers and the Etna brewery was found to have the purest beet in the United States. At the World Fair in San Francisco In 1B15 the Etna beer again came In for honors, winning the gold medal. The brewery was operated until prohibition and then dismantled. Mr. Kappler learned the trade from his father and continued with it, work ing the Acme and National breweries In San Francisco after dlamant!lg of trie Kappler brewery and n the Buf falo brewery at Sacramento. He expects to start the brew work ing here In about a month. Asked how he liked his own product, he replied todsy, "1 drink It. and if it weren't good I'd be the first to ssy so." M'KENZIE DRIFTS BEND, Ore., June lb (AP) The rotary plow used In opening the Mc Kensls Pass highway to automobile travel, today was boring Its way into the big cut at the east approach to Summit lava beds through drifts 35 feet deep, with only 100 feet to go. The crew expected to finish the work In the cut today, despite the great depth of packed snow, lnterstratlfled with ice. Once the drifts In the east cut have been penetrated, the rotary crew win face a 10-mlle snow field which extends across Cascade divide into Deadhorse hill on the McKenxle slope. PLAN ORGANIZATION TO TEST TRUCK LAW For formation of an organization here to test the new truck license law, to go into effect July 1, E. B. Gabriel and W. A.
