MEDFOEtf MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFOKD, OEEGON, FRIDAY, MAY 26, 1933. Jacfcaon county, through the awea gor, hu filed with the treasury de partment at Washington, D. C, it Oregon-California land grant tax claim for g6B.318.84, for the 1932 tax. The claim with certified copies of special tax and other tax levies was forwarded today to the federal authorities. The claim Is usually paid in the fall. The Oregon-California tax claim for 1931 was 960,242. 17. The approxi mate $9000.00 increase this year. Is due to more special school district levies, and to an Increase In state and county levies. The claim was filed a couple of months earlier than usual, according to Assessor J. B. Coleman, In pursu ance to a telegram from Congress man James W Mott, urging an early filing. Several of the upstate counties, It was said, were depending on the 0--C. money in order to make their state tax payments, and signified their Intention of not paying It until the O.-C. money was received. Press and other reports from Wash ington, D. C, have indicated that the O.-C. payments, would be pro rated among the 18 Oregon counties coming under provisions, owing to a shortage of federal funds. BABY'S DEATH HOLDS OF As tr agile proof of the seriousness of an attack of whooping cough to little children and Infants, the baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Belchers of Glendale lies dead here today. All efforts of physicians to save t,he little life when pneumonia followed whoop ing cough, proved ratal. Realizing that the baby was very 111, the Belchers brought him to Med- ford early this week. A physician was summoned and the case was diagnosed as pneumonia. Whooping cough was brought Into the family by an older girl, who recovered satis factorily, but when the two-months-old oaby contracted the epidemic, complications brought pneumonia. This frequently happens, physi cians stated today in criticizing se verely any people who permit their children to carry the epidemic Into other families, falling to realize that there may be Infant brothers 'or sis ters at home who will be unable to withstand the disease. Although whooping cough is much more serlosln Its attack upon very young children, It la never an epi demic to be accepted lightly, physi cians stated, further describing the case. Serious complications often re sult and every precaution should be taken to prevent any children, espe cially those under school age, from contacting anyone with whooping cough. 4 NEXT WEDNESDAY Hearing of the case of W.
