Holdup Reported Allan Black of 93 Willamette atreet reported to the state police that he was held up by a man and woman on the Crater Lake highway Saturday evening, near the alrwaya beacon. At a meeting last evening at Gard ner's drug store of Boy Scout Troop, No. 16, sponsored by the Active club, announcement was made that two Johnson first aid kits will be given as prizes to the two boys writing the best 250-word essay on "Why Boy Scouts Prefer Johnson Products." FERTILE RANCH OF 1400 ACRES GOING AT AUCTION SALE The Balfour Guthrie ranch, north of Ashland across Bear creek, will be the scene of a public auction Thurs day, May 25. at which time 1400 acres of fertile land Including 200 acres of the finest alfalfa In Jackson coun ty will be sold to the highest bidders. Judging from the numerous Inquiries received by the Walter H. Jones Land Auction company from Interested parties in California, Washington and all sections of Oregon, a big crowd will be present. Colonel A L. Stevenson, well known auctioneer of Corvallls, will arrive in Medford Wednesday to com plete arrangements for the sale which is scheduled to start promptly at 9 :30 Thursday morning. Lunch stands will be stationed on the grounds so there will be no delay In continuing bidding throughout the day. Bids will be received first on tract No. 26, across from the Power com pany's sub-station on Nevada street. To reach this place which includes a set of improvements, cross Bear creek at the Oak street bridge; turn right, and follow the auction signs. One hundred dollars per acre w&s spent In clearing and leveling some of the Balfour Guthrie land four years ago. Since that time the entire ranch has been sub -divided by City Engineer F. H. Walker, of Ashland. Pasture tracts are made up of from 80 to 200 acres, while the farm land tracts consist of from 12 to 60 acres. In discussing Thursday's auction sale. Walter H. Jones, agent, estimat ed that the 200 acres of alfalfa would yield two tons per aore. and that the remainder of the ranch Is as fine as any in the Rogue River valley, Livestock. PORTLAND.
