Three Examiners Ward MoReyn-
olds, examiner for chauffeura and op
erators, announced this morning that
next Saturday three examiners will
be on duty In the city council cham
ber at the city hall, from 8 a. m.
to 5 p. m., to conduot examinations.
This special day is being arranged by
the department, due to the . large
number of persons who were unsble
to be secommodated on the regular
days.

The evidence Is lust about conclu
sive now that once mors the west
ern clubs pack most of the power in
the National league.
In the first 34 game of the cam
paign's Initial east-west series, the
Invaders from beyond the Alleghsnles
have gained a 3-1 edge 18 victories
sgalnst eight defeats and this in the
east's own strongholds.
The west checked in with two more
triumphs yesterdsy as the league
leading Pittsburg Pirates blanked the
Boston Braves behind Larry French's
great pitching and the St. Louis Car
dinals took the home run route in
overcoming stubborn resistance from
the New York Giants. The Pirates
and Cards together have accounted
for nine victories In 11 start In the
esst.
The Pirates walloped Tom Zschsry
for nine hits to win 3-0.
The Csrdlnal made only three hits
off Fred FltBslmmons, but they beat
the Giants. 4-3, on home runs by Joe
Medwlck and Frankle Frlsch.

In one, Don Brennan pitched the

when Otis Cllngman of Oklahoma
City and Bull Stastny of Seattle went
a full hour to a draw.
Each won a fall, Cllngman taking
the first In 81 minutes with a drop
toe hold and Stastny the second in
8 seconds with a body slam.
Bulldog Jackson, 158, Klamath
rails, won the seml-wlndup from
Flash Kelly, 180, Los Angeles when
the southern Callfornlan was unabl
to return to the ring.
Herb Burgerson, 145, Portland, and

Leroy Haynes, 197 pounds, Pasa
dena negro, floored Kay Christner,

here last night before the referee
stopped the bout and awarded a

Christner, though he had received
a severe beating from the second
round onward, protested the decision

Jack Holland, who turned to profes
slonal boxing after a brilliant foot
ball career at Tulane university, died
in Charity hospital here at 7:30 a. m.
today from what was described by
physicians as cerebral hemorrhage.
Holland fell unconscious following a
bout last night with Tony Marullo of
New Orleans. He remained uncon
scious to the end.

ger, and with the new manager may
come the organization of a new base
ball league, waa the announcement
made this morning by H. O. Halght,
who has been asked to take over the
Medford team. Oeorge Sowers, who
formerly managed the Medford team.

In Ashland yesterday, conferring with
Billy Hulen, and reported that they
now hope to organize a league com
posed of Ashland, Roseburg, Medford
Eagle Point, Klamath Falls, and per
haps Grants Pass, Hilt and Yreka.
All baseball minded persons In the
valley are asked to meet at the Ash
land armory Friday night to make
plana for the new league, Halght an
nounced this morning.
If the proposed new league is
formed. Central Point, Jacksonville,
Gold H1U and other smaller towns
may come In later, according to
Halght and Hoffard. The general
feeling among the bull players ts that
the season so far has been a flop,
because of bad weather, and that
now la the time to start an entirely
new schedule, as the weather man
predicts better days to come.

selection of Chicago as the venue of
the 1038 national open golf cham
pionship was reflected today In a big
decrease In eastern entries and a cor
responding Increase In competitors
from the west, especially the Chicago
district.
A total of 913 golfers have entered
this yeur as against 1012 In 1032 and
a study of the sectional lists for the
nntlon-wtde qualifying round next
Monday shows that the east can be
charged entirely with this loss. New
York. Boston, Phllidelphla and Wash
ington show an aggregate decrease of
164 entries for their qualifying tests.
