YREKASLAYTR is 23 BALLOT THEFTS IS REVELATION It became known today from au thentic sources that 33 men were in dicted by the grand Jury for complic ity in the brazen and bungiesome ballot theft. Positively known as Indicted were L. A. Banks, held for murder; County Jude S. H. Fehl, Sheriff Gordon L. Schermerhorn, Walter J. Jones, mayor of Rogue River and a Fehl appointee as rosd supervisor: Charles W. Davis. whom Fehl endeavored to name for a county machine shop berth; T. L. Brecheen, Ashland Democratic ward work, politically active alnce hi arrival from California 18 months ago; R. C. Cummlnga of the Wlmer district; Jean Conners, one of the "Grecnapring Mountain Boys"; John Glenn, former county Jailer, and two unnamed "courthouse boarders and roomers." Some of those Indicted are in hid ing, endeavoring to arrange bonds before being taken into custody. The authorities still refuse to make known any of the evidence presented to the grand Jury, which returned the indictments in a short time. They reiterated their previous claim "It was airtight, and a cinch case, The ballots left behind in the courthouse vault by the Intruders will be investigated by the grand Jury. in an effort to establish a basic motive Officers contend that while the shell f recount was desired. It was not the impelling motive. It is known that the recount was a subject of conferences as early tt last December, and that Banks told Intimates "the ballots must not see the light of day, or 7 might as well leave Jackson county, for Ralph Jennings will oe the sheriff." The authorities also desire to es tablish definitely the "master minds behind the ballot outrage. Only 12 of the containers were left behind, including two from this city, and, the Rogue River and Wlmer bal lots. A survey of the official figures, taken from the poll books, shows that the total for county judge and sher iff exceeded the vote, for other offices, Including President, end that the vote in some of the precincts was 'aur- prising." The results in some or tne country precinct has been a source of wonder, since the final count was published. f. ter prints, extras, 21c; standards. 20 lie lb.
