The fmmout old trick of sewing through the body has a sample explanatioiv- The needle i flexible-you can bend it to shape, but it springs back to a straight line when released . . and it doesn't go th rough the victim's body ... it passes around it . . . front to back , . . through this clever little tube. Bible or Booze (By E. A. Oldenburg.) "For the lova of money Is the root of all evil." Bible. 1 Timothy 8:10. The love of money la certainly the taproot of the booze rvll. When men are converted and see the light they will talk of their put experiences. This was the word of a converted brewer In the so-called good old days before Amendment 18: "You take a glass of bepr and throw It against the celling. What sticks la beer: what comes down la profits." Such d1a proportionate profits mark the menu faoture and aala of all booze when restrictions are removed from Its path. It furnishes plenty of money to buy anything that Is needed, from corrupt politicians down, or up. The profits are so much greater than those from helpful business that every brewery and distillery that had been turned to the manufacture of better things la already making every preparation to return the old busi ness. Pabst will no longer make cheese, nor Busch soft drinks, nor distilleries machinery? Why ahould they? Prof its from these things are Insignifi cant when compared with the profits from beer and boose. But dealere in legitimate merchandise should re member that when people, especially In these days, spend their money lor beer and booze they do not have It for more needful things. Wo remember stopping Into the store of a merchant friend. He show ed us a safe and aald: "There are .11,000 In that safe that I wlU sell you for ten cents." The answer: "No, thank you. I like prettier fig urea on my wall paper." These unreasonable profits did then and will again prove plenty of In centive for the most unscrupulous high pressure salesmanship. Nor waa It always for the moment. The fu ture of the business was always kept well In mind. The advice from leading Uquorlta: "Pennies spent among the children now to form the habit will return dollars when they grow up," wsa al waya acted upon. How well we re member that at some schools toy bottles filled with liquor and little nipples attached had been distribut ed among the children. Many other devices were employed to get the growing generation started using the atuff. Advertising waa pro fuse and so plentiful that It waa a brave paper Indeed that would make an adverse statement about the busi ness. What was then will return If booze does.
