Herberg, Modoo Point dis tance skier, won the premier event of the seventh Orter lake Bii club winter carnival at rort Klamath Sun day by flashing over the finish Una ahead of the field in the 83-mlle raoe from Fort Klamath to Crater lake and return. The winner followed O. It. Puckett. Reno, defending champion, through out 31 mile of the gruelling contest, but showed too much Btamlna for last year's tltllst and went Into the lead in the final mile. Hedberg took four hours and 80 minutes to cover the lengthy course. Puckett follow ed in second position and Ruddy Lueck of Medford was third. Hedberg's time In the event was Just SO minutes faster than a run made by a dog team piloted by Scotty Allan, Alaska musher, over the aame distance. Allan, however, was accom panied, on the trip by Mlas Doris Noah. Port Klamath, queen of the carnival. The sharks, which were shovel nosed and from six to nine feet Ion;, had entered a bathing pool. Roy Wil son swam to one of the sharks and scrsmbled on Its back. Then he hooked his legs around Its body, and "rode" It na it dashed frantically up and down the pool. Finally, the shark gave up. exhaust ed. Two others were caught by the aame method.
