begins, but the law gives him mileage

The meetings of fruitgrowers called
for 1:30 p. m. Saturday, February 35,
at the court jhouae auditorium will
be of great Interest to all, according

With finances at a low ebb, the
question of an effective but economi
cal spray program Is of great Im
portance. L. Q. Gentner of the
Southern Oregon Experiment station
has been obtained as speaker to dis
cuss cortaln orchard pests, such as
blister mite, rust , mite and codling
moth,, and how best to 'control these
insect with the minimum amount
of cost. Prof. F. O. Retmer, who has
during the past season continued his
Investigations on the reaction of ar
sente of lead with certain well waters,
will report on ills findings. Also,
Professor Relmer has some new and
Interesting data to present on the
question of soil fertility. '-
All growers are urged to be present
at the auditorium by the specified
time and to enter Into the discussion
of these important questions.
GIVE PLAY
IN COUNTY
Applegata Grange is staging a one
act farce Saturday entitled "Pa's Mew
Housekeeper," which will be their at
tempt to win honorable mention by
the judges of Jackson county Recrea
tional club.
The plays are being staged by the
various Granges and clubs in the
county, the three winners to com
pete at a later date in Medford for
the prize, a trip to Corvallls for the
winning cast.
Applegate U Justly proud of their
amateurs and feel sure of their suc
cess. In the past hree years they
have put on several plays which have
been successes and the notice of an
other always fills the house.
Herbert Elmore, the director, has
taken considerable pains and time
with the following cast and as all of
them have participated In previous
plays. It Is felt that It will not be
long till the term amateur will be
dropped.

embankment and Ringer bad Just
walked a few feet away to wash out a
trial pan when he heard a crash and
turned to see several tons of gravel
and dirt lying where they had stood
only a second or so before. The head
and shoulders of the victim were not
burled and Indications were that
Brubaker had probably been aware
of the danger, only too late to es
cape. He was thrown chest down across
a ledge of rock. After working fran
tically for a half hour or more Ringer
left to get help.
An Immense rock rested across Bru
baker'a hips and a slightly smaller
one on his back. He also had a bad
skull fracture as well as extreme In
ternal Injury. After the victim was
gotten out he was taken to the Wi
nter store where friends and neigh
bors worked over him until Dr. Bailey
of Grants Pass arrived and said be
had been almost Instantly killed.
Mr. Brubaker was unmarried, mak
ing his home with his sister and
brother-in-law, Clyde Ringer of Wl
mer. Two brothers and two sisters
and his parents all reside at Pomona.
Calif., to which place the body will
be shipped. The body will be accom
panied by Mrs. Clyde Ringer.
The deceased was born near Los
Angeles. He was highly respected In
the community In which he lived,
and was master of Enterprise Grange
and his death was a great shock to
the community.
