Large Amount of Relief Work Shown At the annual meeting of the Jack son County Public Health association Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Glenn Fabrics:, the report of Mrs. Leonard Carpenter, chairman of the nominating committee was accepted and the following will carry on the work of the association for the year 1933: Miss Mildred Carlton, president; Mrs. P. The method employed In handling the unemployment relief work In the county wu explained by Hamilton1 Patton, who administers the county fund far the commissaries In Med ford, Rogue River, Ashland and Mo Leod. Mr. Patton reported 1200 fami lies, with approximately 6000 persons so represented as receiving aid from this source. The sixty-five women delegates rep resented the various health units In the county, the Parent -Teachers' as sociations and other agencies con tributing to child welfare. Miss Mildred Carlton, president, called for reports from officers and committee chairmen. Mrs. Wellls, treasurer, reported re ceipts for the year 1832 as being $5636.63, with a balance on band of 55.78. Drastic cuts In Income' from va rious sources, withdrawal of commu nity chest funds, and reduced amount of undlvldual pledges and sale of Christmas seals make it neces sary to provide for a budget of $2231 for 1933. Mrs. Alex Sparrow enumerated the items of the proposed budget show ing cuts in nearly all items, as com pared -with last year. Provision is made for nurses' salaries, transporta tion, dental cllnto and other Items. Mrs. Kenly showed charts illustrat ing the growth of the county health work since the establishment of the dental clinics In 1928. Five dentists and 15 volunteer workers have as sisted with 708 hours to their credit. Fifteen hundred and eighty children here have been treated at an expense of $3698.17, with total fees of $162 received. An Invitation to visit the clinic was also extended. At present the clinic is operated every Tuesday and Friday afternoon from 1:30 to 5, with Dr. R. O. Mulholland and Dr. James Johnson in charge and Miss Harriet Sparrow assisting in the re ception room. Mrs. Carpenter, nurse chairman, told about the milk survey conducted In many states and. quoted from a government pamphlet the deductions from the survey In which Oregon towns also participated. Miss Helen Bullls, Medford chair man, introduced a number of repre sentatives of local Parent-Teacher as sociations, whose reports showed that the undernourished school children are being clothed and fed and In An Indiana Beauty BLAST KILLS 10 PROVIDENCE, R. I., Feb. 3. (AP) Two men were killed and two others injured early today when an explo sion followed by fire wrecked a one story brick structure at the United States Rubber Co., In which coverings for golf balls were made. Hundreds of windows were broken by flying debris in homes and facto ries blocks away. The bodies of John J. Kllroe, 39, and John O'Neill, 29, were recovered from the debris. Company officials said there were five nap t ha tanks In the building. each containing 250 gallons of naptba. It is believed one exploded and Ignited the others. (AP) Only 25 of the 115 sawmills reporting to the Western Pine association were operating during the week ending Jan. 28. the association said today. Production amounted to 10.415,000 feet for the week, or 7.8 per cent of capacity. New buslneM was 19,549, 000 feet, a trifle under the figure lor the previous week, but 57 per cent below the three-year average for Jan uary. Shipment totaled 17,034,000 feet.
