TEACHERS AT 65
PORTLAND, Ore.. Jan. 30. (P
A resolution calling upon the state
legislature to amend the teacher ten
ure law to provide for retiring teach
ers at the age of 65, was adopted,
four votes to two, by the Portland
school board last night.
The vote followed a conference be
tween board members and teachers
from which representatives of the
press were excluded. This action led
William J. MacKenzie, board mem
ber, to leave the meeting In protest
with the observation that If the press,
as representatives of the public, were
to be barred, he would go too.

Several dairymen In this district
report losing milk cows during the
last few weeks.
Judging from reports about all the
fall sown' grain In this and the Sams
Valley districts. It will have to be
reseeded tn the spring owing to the
severe freeze In December.
Mrs. Ed Wilson has been making
many trips to Ashland lately owing
to the Illness of her mother, who we
are pleased to learn at this writing
