Program Found Of Interest Here, Much Interest la being expressed In club circles here In the action taken by the Federation of Business end Professions! Women's clubs through the five-point program for economic adjustment. The program recom mended by Mrs. Oellna MacDonald Bowman of Richmond, Va president of the National Federation Includes: Provision of shelter for homeless, unemployed women; contributions for the relief of the unemployed woman worker; prosperity campaigns to stimulate community buying: tension of opportunities for vocation al training to the temporarily un employed and creation- of Jobs for women out or work. . In a statement regarding the pro gram, Mra. Bowman said "because every phaso of It has been tried out in some community and found suc cessful. "One point In our 1033 program Is repetition of a plan for creating 80,000 houra of work a week for un employed women, which we carried out successfully last year. We asked each of our 60.000 members to offer an unemployed woman at least one hour of work a week by retaining her to perform some simple, personal service such as sewing, mending or preparing her dinner at night. The central relief committee was appeal ed to, to recommend women for these tasks. By appointing special commit tees to list requests for service, we reduced to a minimum the expendi ture of time and effort In getting from place to place. "Each club was requested to accept a quota of hours per woek equivalent to Its membership. The Sioux Falls, S. D., club, with 74 members, pro vided 1280 hours of work per week, or exactly 17 times the assigned quota, for a several-weeks period. It la one of many clubs making a simi larly Dnuiant record." Lovely Event Is Anticipated by Reames Chapter At a lovely event Wednesday even ing, newly elected officers of Reames chapter, O. K. 8., will be Installed as worthy matron and O. E. dates as worthy patron, leading the list of new officers for the year. The auxiliary committee, headed by Mrs. Gwendolyn Woodcock, will serve refreshments, following the impres sive Installation service. Each yesr Installation night is one of the most colorful and enjoyable on the chap ter program and a large attendance Is anticipated for this coming Wed nesday. Wen on ah Club Meets at Waton Home The Wenonnh club met at the home of Harriet Watson Thursday after noon, where a dellclots luncheon was enjoyed, followed by the business meeting. The officers for the past six months were re-elected with the ex ception of reporter, which place will be filled by Bernlce Senrs. Florence Rush and Carrie MUtim assisted the hostess. The card party for this month will be at the home of Nellie Ochow on January 10. Canode Home Is Scene of Dixie Club's Meeting The home of Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge B. Canode was the scene of a happy party December 31, when members of the Dixie club, their hushanda and friends, gsthered there for the last meeting of 1032. The spacious rooms were arranged as a cheery setting for the affair with a beautiful Christ mas tree, frosted window panes and other decorations, enhanced by col ored lights. Cards were enjoyed during the esrly nours and fortunea were told by an experienced soothsayer. Stunts and music slso furnished pleasure for many. Refreshments were served aa the New Year arrived. A hula dance that pleased the au dience waa soloed by Barbara Bovan Noel Benson, with his usual aptness, featured the tap numbers. Mrs. O. V. Myers hostess Tuesday Mrs. O. V. Myers, on North Pacific highway, waa hostess Tuesday after noon to the auxiliary of the W. F. M. S. of the First M. B. church. Mrs. N. J. Wiley presided durlna the business seaslon. A letter from Man ley Center was read, acknowl edging the receipt of and expressing appreciation for the Christmas box sent by the society. Mrs. Mortenscn led an ImDresslvo devotional period, subject "Quench less Thirst,' and reading of a hymn. bringing Inspiring thoughts for the New Yesr. Miss PhJpps made the closing prayer. Mra. A. R. Hedge opened the study program with musical selections on the Vlctoral, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" and "Star of the East." The book review was Riven bv Mrs. Myers, topto "The flaltmarsh of Dis ease." Mra. Hedges outlined the work of the Dr. Sleeper hospltsl. The meet ing closed with musical selection, "The Birthday of a King." The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Kop pes and Mrs. Smiley, served refresh ments at attractive tables. Lulu Salsbury, In an original poem, presented an appropriate gift from the chapter to the retiring patron. The retiring matron and patron expressed their appreciation for the co-operation of the officers through the past year. During the evening those present enjoyed saxophone solos by Dr. John son of Medford, who was accompanied by Miss Jeunesse Butler on the piano and ft vocal solo by Vivian Wilson. accompanied by Mrs. Oeorge Wendt. Following the ceremony a social even ing waa enjoyed with visitors from Ashland and Medford. Lovely refresh ments were served In the dining room where the tables were decorated with potted plants. Meeker s Return From California Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Meeker returned this week from a trip to Los Angeles, where they visited friends, and with whom they enjoyed an auto trip down the coast to San Diego and Agua Calient. Mexico, returning Inland by way of Riverside. New Year'e day -they saw cne Pasadena Tournament of Roses. Fairyland was the theme car ried out in the decorations of the floats and the effect was most beau tiful. Mr. Kellogg, who will be re membered by his many friends here. Is now organist at the First Congre gational church of Los Angeles. Miss Evelyn Wold Married to Writer In San Francisco On December 24, n San Francsco, were united In marriage Miss Evelyn Wold, dsughter of Mr. and Mra. Eric Wold, and Mr. Bror Ooetbe Wlk. Mr Wlk, who Is a native of Sweden, was educated In the schools of Sweden, and completed his training at Ox ford university. He was on three expeditions to the Arctic with Cap tain Roald Amundsen, acting aa his secretary, and is an authority on life and conditions in the north. At present he Is writing and assisting Barrett WUloughby with her famous stories, so that there may be no er rors In her descriptions of northern scenee. Mrs. Wlk Is a graduate of St. Mary's Academy of Medford, 1 an accom plished musician, and bas spent most of her life In Medford. Recently she has been In San Francisco, aa secre tary to Mr. George Cameron, owner and publisher of the Ssn Frsnclsco Chronicle. Mr. snd Mrs. Wlk will make their home in San Francisco.
