COUNTY POLITICAL PLUMSJO FRIENDS IS . OFFICIALS' "AIM Jackson county's political plum tree la 'swept by the controversial storm that has been raging around the courthouse over the validity of the appointment of R. J5. NeNalon of Tafte Bock as county commissioner, and public Interest is being shown on the appointments of the county court. Oregon law specifically states that all appointments and all busi ness of the county shall be conduct ed upon the majority vote of the county court, not the single act of the county Judge or a commissioner. For several weeks the post of chief mechanic of the county machinery shop has been arfTiinor storm center. Thomas Rose berry has been In charged of this department. For a month, ap plicant have appeared on the hori zon, the leader being T. L. Ward, a brother-in-law of Llewellyn A. Banks, orchardlst. Monday, Roseberry was served with a paper, signed by Judge Earl Fehl, directing him to turn over the keys to the machine shop. Ward has been an orchard manager for Banks, on one of his properties. Roseberry consulted counsel, and was advised to retain the keys, as he was- responsible for the equipment and had not been formally discharg ed nor had resigned. He was advised to act only upon the Instructions of the entire county court, not a single member thereof, and did t&. Appointment of three Republicans to deputyshipa and a? county Jailer by Sheriff Gordon L. Schermerhorn, was no balm of Ollead to the Jack son county Democracy, and caused .considerable adverse comment In the ranks of the faithful Bourbons. Re port hath it that the appointment of A. W. Walker was made at the behest of County Judge Fehl, the ap pointment of Phil Lowd at the order of Banks, and Jailer John Glenn by suggestion of T. L, Breeohen, Demo cratic leader of Ashland. Breechen said Tuesday that he knew nothing of the appointment of Glenn until It waa made. Sheriff Schermerhorn has said the appolntm&ts were "only temporary." A number have been mentioned for posts, chief txMng Howard A. Hill, long-time orcharMst, slated for ap pointment as fruit inspector, and Attorney M. O. Wllklna of Ashland suggested as an appointee to the post of deputy district attorney.
