An agreement between them la near. The odds favor action In congress before March 4. Our best official sources have learn ed the British and Jape are playing poker with their currency. Recent skidding of the pound and yen had full cooperation from Lon don and Tokyo. There Is no direct connection between the two events, except they both had somewhat .he anme purpose. The British wanted to baUUer their argument on wax debts as well as to Increase the ad vantages of exporting industries. The Japs havo the exporting trade In mind. Neither country Is in good finan cial condition. Their money would probably have suffered anyway, but hardly to th extent that It has. A financial check by our fiscal authorities Indicates Japanese cur rency Is backed now by 100 per cent gold reserves. Normally the reserve is only 40 per cent. The yen has contracted 68 ir cent to a recent date. The highest whispers are that ster ling may yet go to 92.60. Sttmson's suppressed desires are all automobiles. The treasured secret of the secre tary of state Is the fact that he haul ed his government-owned Lincoln on a boat and took It to London for the recent naval conference. It Irked him considerably when his friends gibed him about it. Now he has won one of his great est diplomatic motor victories. White salartes and everything else In the department were being cut, Stlmson got away with a 16,000 appropriation for a new Lincoln in the budget. It will go to his successor. The excuse contained in the bud get Is that the Stlmson Lincoln was three years old.' Henry Ford will probably sue. You can hear the army generals cackling from here to the Pacific over what Is going to happen after March 4 to Mr. Stlmson's falr-halred boy, Capt. Eugene Regnler. The official whisper around the war department is that a nice lone some seat la being dusted off for him at Fort Marfa, Texas, an outpost on the Rio Orande. It la so far . from anywhere that the generals do not even know exactly where It Is. He will be banished there by official orders. Regnter's sin was that Stlmson took a liking to him some years back. Stlmson got Senator Reed of Penn sylvania to pass an act of congress in order that he might keep Regnler as his official military aide. The army people have burned about It. They hate to see a low captain hobnobbing with kings. They have been whetting their knives for some time and will get their opportunity March 4 when Stlmson goes out. nlnaA Mr I II tTavat rfanw his contract la up in two or four months. They olalm It has two years to run. Some say four. Their story Is that the movie mag nates are trying to get him out be cause he Is a Republican. The mag nates want a Democrat while Roose velt Is in the White House. Hays is well-informed as to thetr intentions. His office recently plant ed a story in a movie trade publica tion headlined: "Will Haya Must Stay; Industry in All Lines Want Him In Lead." It looks like an Interesting fight while Haya Is learning to read. French confidence in our money is not very -high now. . . . You may ex pect some new attacks on the dollar from that source before long. . . . The French were more pleased about the Roosevelt election than any other nation. . , . They have never liked Mr. Hoover. LUDEN'S SECRET FORMULA GIVES Cbuqk r Attention Land Owners of Medford Irrigation District Important meeting at the auditorium in the Court House 2 P. M.
