Garden Club Will Sponsor Annual Christmas Lighting Displays
LIGHT FOR EVERY
Elaborate Displays Not
Urged Universal Adop
tion of Idea Is Main Desire
of Medford Sponsors
A light In every borne, to shed Its
friendly beams upon rather dark
ened world, Is the request of the
Medford Garden club for Cbrlstmaa
eve, 1032. And every borne In the
city, from the most humble to the
moet palatial, Is asked to Join In the
extensive program to make the com
ing holiday a merry one and one In
which the old time understanding of
Christmas cheer ahall be reflected
from street to street aa Christmas
carols ring through the town.
The annual Christmas lighting, to
be sponsored again by the Medford
Garden Club members, leaders In all
local endeavors to bring a little more
of beauty Into the life of the town,
will be non-competlttve this year and
It Is hoped more universal.
Not Elaborate.
Homes In which elaborate electrical
displays cn be arranged are asked to
make tbem even more brilliant than
last year. Homes, la which displays
ere financially Impossible, are asked
to place a light In the window, a
light on the porch, or a candle some
where to throw Its light to the weary
and the needy In memory of one,
whose kindness extended to the most
lowly.
Living Christmas trees In spsrkltng
dresses, lighted In festive colors, win
appear on many lawns, according to
expectations of the Osrden club.
Wreaths will add a cheery note to
windows and doorways and the mistle
toe bough, will add romance to many
rooms glimpsed from the street, be
the weather calm or blustering when
Christmas eve arrives.
' The Osrden club Is not asking for
elaborate displays, except from those
people who are planning, and oan
eaally afford them, but Is asking
everyone to add stray of light to
Christmas eve.
Candle In Can Good.
- A candle In a pound coffee oan is
very effective lighting fixture, Mrs.
L. C. Williams, a member of the club
suggested this morning, and all per
sons who have' pitched camp under
such a light will agree with her. The
candle, when placed In the front of
the oan, placed on Its side, wlU find
tn the ehlny exterior a fine reflector,

of Commerce building, where list

BEAUTIFUL YULETIDE
CUSTOM ADOPTED BY
Cities na of Medfora will welcome
the good news that this community
Is going to have outdoor lighting
dlsplaya again this year. This bssu
tlful Tuletlde custom has been adopt

the entire nation until noarly every
wide-awake community In America

longer la the Joy and good cheer of
the glad Tuletlde season confined
behind closed doors and now every
one may share In the delightful at
mosphere created by the beautiful
Christmas lighting effects here, there
and everywhere.
Christmas decorating, since Its
earliest beginning, has alwaya cen-1
tered around the fireside of the home
but tlit new weatherproof wiring de
vices and the Inside colored lsmps
have extended the realm of Christmas
greetings to the exterior of the house
and garden. Beautiful effects may
be obta.ned even In the smaller
homes but outlining esves and gablea
with light to emphaslee their eon
tours, or by floodlighting coiuplcu
T. tactions In psle green or blue to
furnish a contrasting background for
the lighted trees and shrubbery on
the lawn. Dsually a solidity of color
Is more srt'.tlo and tmpresslve than
haphazard mixtures.
Within the house, the brightly
lighted Christmas tree can be made
more attractive when, supplemented
with lighted festoons around the
fireplace, doorways and windows, by

In a few mora days the click of
trunk switches all over Medford will
transform Into falrland of light the

ple. Thousands of gay little colored
lights will wink and blink their
message of good cheer to all who
pass by.
Alomost everybody seems to have
their own definite Ideas as to how
their are going to decorate their own
particular domicile or if they havent
any definite Ideas when they start
they collect them very quickly once
they have acquired a few strings of
Christmas bulbs.
For the benefit of those who are
even yet a bit hazy as to Just how
they will proceed, here are a few
suggestions as to ways In which very
attractive effects may be gained.
1. Substitute a red lamp for the
customary one In your entrance fix
ture and put a wreath around It.
2. Place electric candles In Christ
mas wreaths In your windows. (Elec
tric candles are for safer than tho
wax variety.)
3. Run colored lights through the
trees and shrubbery on your grounds.
4. Place Christmas trees In tubs
In the yard and trim them with
strings of colored lights. ,
A. Bun strings of colored lights
along your veranda,
0. Festoon strings of colored
lights along the eaves of your house.
7. Place colored lights In your
flower boxes. '
8. Twine colored lights In wreaths
or garlands and bang them In the
windows or festoon them about the
outside of the house.
9. Place Illuminated stars over the

and one green, in twin sockets and

Merry Christmas"
Nothing lends more Christmas cheer to your
home than the glow of small electric lights. The
modern symbol of the Christmas spirit, their color
ful brightness imparts a warm welcome an
inviting glow to your home.
Decorative lights are practical, fasting decorations.
After the holidays they will be ready for every
festive occasion through the year, and if handled
with ordinary care will last for years.
You can enjoy electrical decorations the whole .
holiday season for only a few cents. It will pay
you to invest in decorative lights the perfect
expression of "Merry Christmas" for your home.
