Portland Produce CURES FOR TAXES A program of tax reduction through legislative measure will be drafted thla afternoon by the taxation com mittee of the Chamber of Commerce, waa the information given out to day by W. H. Gore, chairman of the committee. .There are several pro posals which the committee will un doubtedly make to the Jackson county delegation to the state legla lature bearing on remedies for pres ent conditions an taxation mattera. One of the remedies to be ad vanced by the committee will un doubtedly Include a proposal enab ling partial payment of property taxes at shorter Intervale than the half-year period now In vogue. It la felt that taxpayera generally will welcome the opportunity to pay taxea for a shorter period of time, thereby reductlng the actual amount necessary to pay at any one time. Proposals effecting the two-mill state school levy and the per capita levy for school purposes will also be considered at today'a meeting. At ft later date the committee will also consider the J. C. Leverette of this city, who Is operating theaters in north ern California and Oranta Pass, and who is associated with a northern chain of picture houses, announced the closing of a deal today through which he will take over the Hurst theater In Ashland, better known to many as the Vlnlng, under which name It was operated for many years. Mr. Leverette will take possession of the theater December 15. The deal was made with Harry Hurst, present operator and manager, and calls for a several years' lease on the play house. The Ashland theater will be operated as all others under Mr. Lev erette's management, to give the best p'-ture programs available to the public of the Llthla city and neigh boring communities. Mr Leverette has been In the show business for several yers, steadily adding new houses to his list of thea ters. WEE SCOTCH LASS IN STUDIO FILM To determine the price to be paid the milk producer In Jarkson county, the executive committee of the re cently formed organisation of pro- ducers and distributors Is in meeting this afternoon. The price to the consumer on the distributors product was determined last week-end and went into effect yesterday. The price of grade A whole milk agreed upon Is eight cents quart to cash customers, and nine cents a quart to 30-day customers. The price prior to the disturbances or last week In the milk market was 10 cents a quart. During the threat ened milk war the price on while milk went down to 10 cents a gal- ion. The condition led to the rea lisation on the part of producers and distributors that a definite prloe should be agreed upon. An organiz ation was formed and a committee appointed and given power to set prices for distributors and producers. On the committee In session this afternoon are: Dick Strauss, George Glllman, W. O.
