Relief work and benefit parties
continue to bold first place on the
Medford social calendar as the Cnrlat
maa holidays approach, bringing In
creased demanda (or tunds with

While all agencies and organiza
tions are devoting their time to the
cause, the need haa extended to num
erous social nouns and Individuals
are now joining the movement, Mrs.
Otis Newbury Is among the first to
sponsor a benefit party. She will be
hostess Tuesday afternoon In the new
women's club rooms In the city hall
at a benefit duplicate contract tour
nament for which numerous table
reservatlona have already been made.
All proceeds realized from the party
will be donated the Lions club relief
tltchcu. Mrs. Newbury will be assist
ed In supervising play by Mrs, Lois
Day and Mrs. Ea telle Qulsenberry.

The executive board of the Women's
Missionary society of the Christian
church, was entertained at the home
of Mrs. H. J. Berrien, on Oenessee
street Wednesday afternoon. There
were 10 guests present. Plans for the
work of the next quarter were dis
missed, also plans for a missionary
pageant to be put on January 8, were
perfeoted. After the business period,
a social time was enjoyed and delight
ful refreshments served. The plates
were decorated with sprigs of holly,
carrying out the Christmas Idea.

ing made by many groupa in Med
ford this week, although the holiday
Is still three weeks distant. The Busi
ness and Professional Women's club
will hold the annual Christmas party
of that organization In tho new wo
men's club rooms In the city hall De
cember 22.
Other groups are also pumnlng to
hold their Christmas parties In the
new club rooms, which furnish an
ldeai place for afternoon snd eve
ning affairs.

bazaar at the Guild hall this com
ing Wednesday and have planned a
day, which will be of Interest to all,
beglnlng with the hour of 10 a. m.,
and continuing until 7:00 p. m.

the proper setting for the event and
suitable gifts for all will be on dis

Bridge will be plsyed during the
afternoon, beginning at 2:00 o'clock,
and tables are being arranged for
both contract and auction. A amsll
sum will be charged for tea and
cards.

The program arranged by the Med
ford Gleemen for their concert Tues
day evening embraces a wide variety
of songs. There are beautiful ar
rangements of popular ballade aucb
as "Sylvia," "Danny Boy," "I Love a
Lassie" and others of equal charm
especially adapted to male voices. The
heavier numbera Include "Landslgbt
lng" by Grieg, Rachmaninoff's Pre
lude "Bella at Eventide," and "Dear
Land of Home" from "Flnlandla" by
Sibelius. Interspersed through the
list will be compositions In lighter
vein, the foremost of which is "Mas
cot of the Troop" from "Mademoiselle
Modiste." The old favorite "Swing
Along" and a modern number "Lull
aby of the Leaves" arranged by Se
bastian Apollo, accompanist of the
gleemen, sre close rivals of "The
Mascot" in vivacity.
These are only part of the reper
toire prepared for presentation but
convey an Idea of the scope of the
program and forecast an enjoyable
evening for music. Tickets are on
