Stuart of the Lion club stated today tbat wonderful response bad been received by the organiza tion following a report in last nl&bt'a iaaue of the Mail Tribune concerning the aoup kitchen being conducted for the unemployed here. Mrs. Edwlna Welahaar, president of the Business and Professional Wom en's club, said this morning that an effort was being made by the club to provide work for one of the three women depending upon the relief organizations. Mrs. E. M. McKeen last night pro vided quarters for one woman In order that she might have place to stay. Women of the Salvation Army con gregation, co-operating with Capt. I H. Oallahue, will try and furnish a room that might be used for local transient women who have no place to stay, according to aonouncement today. The sleeping quarters provided at the present time are only for men. Relief workers are anxious tbat some plumber volunteer his services In order that drinking water might be provided in a sanitary way for the sleeping room. Others who read the British note in clined to rather general belief that the United States would again deny the requests for leniency at this time, "If Great Britain desires to carry out the plan suggested," said Smoot, "she has a perfect right to do it, but in my opinion she will be the sufferer Instead of the United Btates." Representative Hawley of Oregon, ranking Republican on the house ways and means committee, said: "So far as the British note is con cerned I am still of the opinion that aU the nations ought to pay us on the date due." GLEN ROBINSON IN COURT ABOUT DOG Glen B. Robinson appeared In Judge Glenn O. Taylor's court this afternoon to present hte sWe of the case fn which he ia defendant charged with allowing an habitually vicious dog to run at large. Robinson's trial opened yesterday afternoon at the city hall, at which time several witnesses testified in be' half of the city. Frank P. Parrell, city attorney, represented the plain tiff in the case, and Attorney Edward C. Kelly, the defendant, who did not appear during yesterday's session. The court, in its ruling, held that the claim of the defense that the com plaint encroached upon the federal bankruptcy laws was not well taken. and that other contentions had no legal merit. The court held that the laws of Oregon and other states were plain in detailing the powers ana meaning of the laws.
