MURPHY Associated Pres SU(f Writer ' BOSTON, Dm. t (AP) Mr. Perry, humanitarian end solvent, today began to pay his "debt" to America. Mr. Perry U Perlclea Koskoris, 45, American citizen. The debt be feel he owea If hit cltlienihlp and solvency. A few davs sen a number of small a nottoes ejfre pasted on the window of Mr. Perry a shop, where he repairs the worn out shoes of men and tends to their other sartorial needs. It read: "Mr. Perry Invites 300 unemployed persons to a free breakfast on Decem ber 1 and every morning thereafter until December 81. Please friends be In line on this comer before 8:10 every morning.' Long before the time arrived hla guests were on band. When break fast was served 38 mors then the allotted 300 had been fed. The service was direct and simple. Mr. Perry stood at the head of the line and gave away tickets. The tickets purchased breakfast at a res taurant but a few stepi away. When the guests were served Mr. Perry col lected bis tickets and paid their toll. Mr. Ferry has been a soldier and like the corslcen he believes a man, whether a soldier or a member of the army of unemployed, travels best on full stomach. Be Is giving his the ory a thirty day test. Twelve years ago, a young army of ficer, fresh from service in the Bal kans, landed in New York, penniless, without friends and unable to speak the English language. Be came to seek his fortune. That young officer was Mr. Perry. He admits he Is not rich but he has prospered. America has been kind to him and h has only gratitude for the land of his adoption. He wished to make that gratitude take a tangible form and the break fast were the result. While his bene factions today reached the eyes and ear of the public they were not hi first. Last Christmas day 378 families of unemployed men could thank Mr. Ferry for turkey dinners. During a cold spell last winter 300 other men were provided with shoe by the for mer Greek Immigrant. Be took a novel way of furnishing th. footwear. Noticing a group of men waiting for work and finding many almost shoeless, he Invited them Into his shop, fitted them with shoes left to be repaired and sent them on their way. When hi customer called for their Shoes he explained the situation. "I only had to pay for a few pairs." he aid. "The other customers under Willow Springs WILLOW SPRINQfl. Dec. 3 (Spl.) Willow Springs Thursday club will meet December 8, with Mrs. S. E. Reames on Crater Lake highway. Misses Roberta Reames and Prances Parker will have charge of the pro gram. Mr. and Mr. J. W. fad en enter tained with their annual dinner on Thanksgiving day. Present, besides the family, were Miss Adelaide Stam baugh of Portland, Mr. and Mrs, J. W. Blrkhols and Mr. and Mrs. w. K. Parker and daughters. Mrs. oene Blackford has been seri ously 111 with the flu, tut Is reported as Improving. Mr. and Mr. A. H. Clements and family were Thanksgiving guests at the Percy Thorn sa home on Foots creek. Miss Leah Parker of Klamath Falls was a guest of her parent, Mr. and Mr. W. K. Parker for the Thanks giving holidays. Mrs. St. Germain Is recovering from a major operation performed last week at the Medford Community hos pital. . Mr. Also Benson, who recently moved Into the tenant house on the Osklelgh ranch, has been seriously 111 with u. but Is Improving slowly. Miss Adelaide fiftambaugh and Oeorge Ktden of Portland have been house guest of Oeorge' parent, Mr. and Mr. J, W. Elden, for the past week. Mrs. Jennie Neal of Long Beach, Cel., I visiting friends In the valley. Mr. Neal has been visiting In Wash ington and is now enroute home. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nichols enter tained at a family dinner November 94. Robert Law, son of Mrs. Victory, is visiting her and other relatives while on a furlough from Fort Mc Arthur, Sen Pedro, Cel. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nichols spent a few day this week a the guests of Mr. Nichols brother, Blmer Nichols and family of Olendsle. Thanksgiving, day guests at the Oscsr Blackford home were the Lucas and Ell famine of Beagle. Mr. and Mr. Oene Blackford and sons and Ray Rows. Fern Valley FBRN VALLEY, Dee. 3. (Spl.) While riding In the hills Monday, T. N. Williams' mule tell on his crippled leg and Injured It so he Is unable to walk. No bones were broken but he we seriously bruised. This was revealed today In terse communique from sdvsnclng Japa nese troops to their headquarter her.. Despite apparently atlff oppoaltlon, the Japanese have advanced north westward along the Chinese Eastern rsllway toward the Soviet border. Today their main force of several thousand troop was consolidating It position at Chalantun, 78 miles northwest of Tsltslhar. The battles were fought In the streets and J net outside that railway town. The Japanese said they count ed 300 Chinese corpse on the froeen, snow-covered plain after the engage ments. When the Japanese took Chalan tun. they had advanced halt way to the famous Khtrucsn Mountain coun try from Tsltslhar, It la at Manchull that the Chines rebel general, Su Ping-Wen. I sta tioned with several thousand troops, and 183 Japanese hostage. Twenty two of these are women and children. For every dollar bill, he got 81.18 In Canadian money. For every dollar In silver he got 61.08. For every dol lar In gold ha got a dollar In Can adian currency Juat that and noth ing more. He protested what he termed th. discrimination against gold In favor of paper, but, th. bankar sxplslned: "Tour gold piece are worth no more to ua than Canadian gold piece of th. same face value.
