Lit Gray Chaplin, to place them before the rum camera. Making a personal appearance yes terday In the court of Superior Judee Charlea 8. Crall, before whom Mrs. Chaplin, the comedian's former wife, had filed a petition seeking to abro gate a previous decision In favor of the actor, Chaplin related the hard ships of his own boyhood snd said lie wanted his boys to "romp and play" In t.heir childhood days. In the first contest, the court ruled in favor of Chaplin by Inserting In their divorce decree of 1927 a clause that both parents must present Writ ten consent before the boys, Chsrles, Jr., 7, and Sidney, 8, could be em ployed In any vocation. In the latest proceeding the mother Insisted that Clisp'tn had adopted an attitude of arrowgance toward her plans. In rendering a declaloi,, Judge Crall cited the success of the comecllsn In pictures, against the "little success" of Mrs, Chsplln as a film player, and said he believed the actor was best qualified to judge "what exploitation in pictures means." He commented that If the children were successful, Mrs. Chaplin "would be basking In reflected glory of her husband" and "It should be his privilege to direct who shares In the glory of his name." The court also called to the moth er's attention an expenditure of $12.. 000 annually for support of the ohU dron and remarked that It seemed somewhat extravagant.
