Plans for the card party to bo held November 2 will be discus sed. All Masons and their friends are invited to the party planned, and may make reservations by calling Mrs. Martin at 498-L, or Miss Anna Det wetler at 875 -L. There will be a game for each and everyone at the party November 2. as progressive and pivot auction bridge, contract and five hundred will be played. Harvest Home Festival Looms on Calendar Holding an Important place amid events for the week Is the two-day Harvest Home festival planned by women of the Catholic ciiitfcli for Wednesday and Thursday. It wlU be held at the Catholic Parish hall, which will bo 'decorated in autumn leaves and fruits' for the occasion. Wednesday evening the harvest dinner will be served and Thursday afternoon, a card party will be the leading event of the day. Dancing and numerous booths as well ns a musical program will add Interest to the two-day affair. Mrs. Gore Finds Opera Well Attended. A note to Medford friends from Mrs. E. E. Oore this morning brings encouraging news from San-Francisco. "There are no signs of depres sion in the music world," there, ac cording to Mrs. Gore, who writes that there are great crowds at the opera. Everything sold out, even standing room. Mrs. Gore was accompanied to San Francisco for the opera- by her daughter, Rosa. Miss Alice Holm back la presiding at her studio dur ing Mrs. Gore's absence Mrs. Van Dyke Gives Dessert Bridge Today Mrs. Vern Van Dyke Is entertain ing this afternoon at dessert bridge at her home, 311 Peach street. Harwood will be hostess at r-er heme on Lew'ls avenue, off the Jacksonville highway, to members of the Pythian Sisters club this even ing. All members are requested to bring school lunches. Reames Chapter Plans Initiation Initiation will be conducted by Reames chapter, O. E. S., Wednesday evening. Refreshments will be serv ed by the officers and all members and visiting members are Invited to the meeting. Farmerette Party Event for Tonight The Crater Lake Guild will enter tain this evening with ' a farmerette party at the Presbyterian church, and a large attendance la expected for the gala event. Members are asked to bring guests, as tonight will be guest night. Clever costumes, In keeping with the autumn, when thoughts turn to the farm as pumpkins and apples ripen, are expected to predominate. Hallowe'en Frolic Planned at School Children of the Roosevelt School are looking forward to Friday even ing. October 28, for their annual Hallowe'en frolic will be held at that time. Oames, stunts, dances and "eata" will be In keeping with the season. Tha children are busy with practicing of plays and stunts and are anticipating a large crowd, and a worthwhile entertainment Friday. Shrtnera and Daughters Of Nile to Hold Party A festive event of Thursday evening will be the dancing party at the Fair grounds pavilion at Grants Pass at which Daughters of the Nile and Shrtnera will be joint hostesses. A large delegation of local members of Zulelma and Hitnh temples will at tend the dance, which will be follow ed by buffet supper. Woodmen Announce , Candidates' Ball The Woodmen of the World will hold a candidates' ball Tuesday even ing at 8 o'clock In the Knights of Pythlaa hall. There will be an inter esting program, followed by cards and dancing. All candidates for of fice are cordially Invited to attend and the public will be welcome. Miss Holt Celebrates Birthday This livening Miss Barbara Holt will be hostess this evening at a dinner and bridge party, entertaining on the occasion of her birthday. Felix Moreno. 10, of Ontario, re. eelved fatal Injuries when he was swept from a sidewalk by a gust of wind Into th path of an automo bile. Charles White. 40. of Arcadia, en gaged In a search for P. R. Lundy, Jr. Monrovia banker, and Lloyd Nelson Arcadia school teacher, was killed In a 150-foot fall to the bottom of a canyoji. Nelson and Lundy. with Ott Her shey Arcadia banker, and Vernon Dodge, Arcadia merchant, began an ascent of the rugged mountain Sun day, but Dodge and Hershey retuml after proceeding three miles up the slopes. When their compsnlons fail ed to appear later, a search wss or ganized. Lundy was found uninjur ed but Nelson had slipped down the same canyon In which White later was killed, and had suffered Injuries. The two men were located by an alrplant pilot who sighted their sig nal fire. Reports to sheriff's deputies said the fire was fanned into a dan gerous blaze by the wind and for a time It was feared that the hikers might have been caught in their own fire, but they eluded It and were brought down the slope by the res cue party. Brush fires were spread in several other districts by the flames, Includ ing a blaze near Trlumfo, where 50 men were recruited to fight the flames. A church, six residences and several garages were damaged by the wind In Los Angeles, several small buildings were demolished In On tario. Qlendale and the Las Cresenta valley. Telephone lines were crip pled and hundreds of signs were blown down. Orchards suffered slight damage. (Pop) Gates Independent nd popular candidate for county Judge will speak tonight at Bellvlew near Ashland, and tell the people In that district his views on the Issues and principles of the county campaign. Tomorrow night (Wednesday) he will hold a meeting at Prospect, which promises to be a large meeting as the people In that district are tak ing a keen interest in the county Judge race, and want to get all the Information possible from the candi dates. A lively meeting Is expected as there are supposed to be many Fehi supporters in that nelghnornood. Thursday night Pop will address a meeting at Gold Hill and Saturday night at Butte Falls. Medford for mer mayor Is leaving no stone un turned to take his candidacy directly to the people and give them all the facte concerning it, and the princi ples and policies he .avors. Leading CILUeu Dead FOREST GROVE, Ore.. Oct. 25 Funeral services were held here to day for Homer Charles Atwell, 71, for twelve years a member of the state board of horticulture, and post master of Forest Grove for eight years. He had lived here 41 year and taught Latin. Greek and German at Pacific university For six years Prof. Atwell was director of Portland's ear wig control campaign. He died at bis home here Sunday. Rev. George Iverson will conduct the services. 4 Cut Relief Work PORTLAND, Oct. 26. (AP) Be cause of a shortage of county funds. Multnomah county has agreed to a reduction of men on relief work from 1,750 to 1,250 a week.
