Much interest has been shown tn the matter. "What Method of Control of the Liquor Tralfic Have Been Tried, and With What Results?" la the question for consideration. Hugh Shurtleff Is the leader. Carl E. Grant, dUtrlct manager of the Metropolitan Life Insurance com pany, will be guest speaker, and ad dress the attendants on "Liquor and Long Life," from the standpoint of life Insurance. Several of the young folks will take part In the discussion pro and con of the methods of control of liquor. Including local option, the Canadian system, the Bratt or 8wedlsh system, and national prohibition. Special musical numbers will be given by Mrs. L. M. Cr&in, pianist. Hunband Found Guilty Fred Stlmaon was today found guilty of assault and battery charges filed by his wife, Lydla Stlmson, and was fined 25, In Judge Olenn O. Taylor's court. The sentence was sus pended by the Judge with the under standing that Stlmson cease such assaults, and support his wife and two children. AWARD DENIED HEAR! The Jury went out at 7:50 o'clock last night and brought in a ea!cd verdict at 10:30. Testimony in the case was completed yesterday after noon, following a two-day session of the court, and the arguments, completed at 8:30 o'clock. The Jurors were asked to return after dinner to receive the Judge's Instructions. Tile courtroom was filled for the trial both days. Miss Kirksmlth was rep resented by Attorney Ralph Hammer of Seattle and A. P. Johnson of port land, and the defendant by IXn Newbury of thla city. Spe cial effort will be made to collect outstanding pledges In order to meet obligations already contracted. Those owing the Chest are urged to pay as soon as possible. The decision made 1 to abandon the campaign this season Is expected to act as a year's mora torium, the board members stated, and not as & permanent closing of the Chest program.
