LAD SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PEN Racine Welser, 30, frail Klamath Indian youth, found guilty by a fede ral court Jury of the slaying of his father, Sylvester Weiser, on the morn ing of August 4th last, waa this morning sentenced to life Imprison ment, by Federal Judge Alger Fee. Weiser heard the fateful words with the traditional stoicism of his race. The court declared In passing sen tence, "there are no extenuating cir cumstance, and the fact that the de fendant admitted from the witness stand he harbored a plan to slay hie father for a period of two or three months weighs against him tn this hour of Judgment." District Attorney George Nuener told the court "that only the actions of a charitably inclined federal grand Jury had stood between the defend ant and Indictment for first degree murder." and that "the sentence should be a lesson to Indians. par ticularly educated onea that they cannot brush aside the white man's law, at the whims of their personal Inclinations." Counsel for Weiser asked leniency from the court on the grounds "that the most damaging admissions against him came from his own lips." The slaying of Sylvester Weiser, the government contended, was prompted by the resentment of the ion to the objections to hia Journeying to Klamath Falls on "drinking part Lea." The government charged that young Weiser, as a climax to a drunken apree, with other Indian youtha, had lain In wait for his sire, and shot him, when he dismounted from his horse, and reproached Weiser for his conduct. The defendant claimed that he shot In self-defense, and after his fatiier had menaced him with a club, with the further plea that he had shot In protection of hla mother.
