The Wednesday study club met at
the City Library on the afternoon of
October 6th, for the first study pro
gram of the club year, which wae
opened by the president, Mrs. J. H
Cochran. After routine business ,hnd
been transacted, the first number of

wae given by Mrs. J. O. Grey. Mrs.
Cochran followed with "The Bio
graphy of James Madison" and after
general dismission, Mrs. W. E. Crews
closed the afternoon's session with
several articles from current maga
zine, all on topics of general Interest
at the present time.

ing held In the auditorium of the
court house Thursday evening, when
business that has come up during the
summer vacation was attended to and
a plant exchange took place

4-H work in which onlyi the Roose-
veit and Washington schools partici
pated, nine prizes being awarded.
Mention waa made of the kindness
of Messrs, Swem, Mlksche and Mac
Donald in helping with the float for
the parade on Sept. 1, and of the
amount of work such a float requires.
Mrs. Swlgart waa asked to confer
with delegates from other olubs con
cerning the projected club rooms In
tne city hall.

the meeting, twenty of whom were

the hall, where they received only

On Relief Program
In Local Society
Women of Jackson county are
again called to aupplant bridge par
ties and teas with relief work, this
time to devote their hours to the
art of sewing. Women's clubs and
societies throughout ths county are
asked by the Red Cross to make
clothe for needy families during the
coming winter months.
The material Is being furnished
by the Red Cross and the women
are asked to make It Into garment.
Several thousand yards .have been

Thursday was the occasion of the
annual one o'clock luncheon of the
W. F. M. S. of the First M. E. church,
held at the parsonage, with Mr.
Bennett as hostess, the officers of
the society a aponsors.
It waa a happy occasion with good
attendance of membera and friends
seated at prettily appointed tables,
lighted by tiny candles.
The business session followed with
Mrs. W. J. Wiley presiding. Rev.
Belknap offering the opening pray

delegate to the Branch meeting In
session at Eugene.
Mrs. Carder conducted the devo
tional period toplo, "God's Creation,"
followed with prayer by Mrs. Walker.

Thursday evening, October 8, st the
"Y," where various things of rou
tine business were disposed of. The

talks by Miss Helen Williams and
Miss Laura Drury, who spoke In the
Interests of the girls of Medford,
and their needs. Certain definite
request were made of the Y. W. O.
A. and were enthusiastically received
by the board. Among these requests
were: That the lecture room of the
"Y" building be offered to the girls
at noon for a resting place and social
hall. That a Sunday vesper serv
ice be conducted, to help meet the
spiritual needs of the girls. That
social get-together evenlnga be given
at Intervals for the girl. That
classea be offered the girls, espec
ially one in music appreciation.
The first "get-together" psrty was
then planned .for Wednesday eve
ning. October 13 at 8:00 o'clock. The
board members will be hostesses at
thla meeting and will serve refresh
