after trouncing Seattle, 13 to 3, on
the Ducks' home field Tuesday night
while th second place Hollywood

Angeles.
With but six game remaining to
be played, Portland needs but four
mora victories to become mathemati
cally certain of th championship.
The Ducks now lead Hollywood by
three full games.
Seattle waa only two run behind
the league leaders until the last half

reported today deatroyed by the
earthquake which hit Greece Mon
day night and which la known to
have resulted In the deaths of 137
persons. Whole villages were destroyed

the monument were broken up. and

determine how many dead were still

Since their last week's victory over
the powerful Redding squad, 7-0, the
Yreka team la loklng forward rather
optimistically to their game with
Medford, to be played on the local
field Saturday, October 1.
The southern team has about three
teams running signals, and will prob
ably bring two full onea up here.
The squad la much lighter than tee
locals, having only one man, tackle,
weighing more than 160 pounds, and
the whole team averages only about
ISO.
According to reports, the Redding
game was a hard fought one, and
ahowed the Yreka eleven in an un
expected position, that of victor, for
the odda were all against .tier. She
now expects to carry off tha north
ern California conference title.

Deer Hunter Kills
White Horse Under
Rider Among Trees

An unidentified hunter Saturday
mistook a pure white horse for a
deer and shot the horse out from
under Jay Hlatt.
Hlatt was riding through a clear
ing In the timber In the mountains
near Heppner. A hunter on a
nearby ridge fired three tlmea, one
bullet killing the horse, which, aa
it fell, pinned Hlatt by one leg.
The hunter disappeared when Hlatt
cried out.
Hlatt was severely bruised.
