Schools have taken from the local colonies many members of the younger act but their elders refuse to Bdmlt that the outdoor season Is at an end. Mrs. O. N. Mrs. Gale Honored m Portland While Mrs. Cook's Guest Mrs. Wlnsor O. Oale spent a few days In Portland this week as guest of Ensign Gale's mother, Mrs. Floyd Cook, an route from San Pedro, cai., where they have been stationed the oast year, to Bremerton, where they will be for two months. On Wed nesday afternoon, Miss Marlorle Hoi' man Invited guests to tea In honor of Mrs. Oale. Mrs, Cook waa hostess on Thursday complimenting her daughter-in-law, who waa formerly of Baltimore, prior to her marriage last year following Ensign Oale'a m-aduatlon from Annapolis. Mrs. William J, Crawford assisted her mother at the tea, and presiding at the tea table were Mrs. Walter Meyer and Mrs. Lawrence Hoi man. Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Oale left yesterday for Bremerton to meet the ship on which Ensign Gale arrived. The Spectator. Mrs. Gale was guest in Meaioru of Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Warner and Ensign Oals's grandfather, Judge Wm. M. Oolvlg before continuing to Port land, and was the Inspiration for considerable entertaining. Portlanders Visit 'At Voorhies Home ' Douglas Burrell arrived yesterday by motor from Portland to be guest over the week-end of his uncle and aunt, Colonel and Mrs. Gordon Voor hies. Mr. Theo. H. Mills, who was guest last week of the Voorhies, left Tues day by plane for Portland, having been called back to the City of Hoses to participate In the symphony mem bership drive, which la stsrtlng In anticipation of a winter of beautiful music. Mrs. Ward, of Bond, passed through Medford on Monday on their way to Ashland, where Mrs. Ward's daughter entered the normal school. On their way back they stopped over night with the Drs. Csrlow and continued their Journey to Bend on Tuesday morning. - - Edward Rramea to Enter Stanford. Edward Reames, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Reames, will leave Tuesday by plane for Palo Alto to enter Stan ford University as a sophomore. He will stop for ft short visit In San Francisco before continuing south. Miss Carlton Is Thursday Hostess CENTRAL POINT Missionary group met with Miss Helen Carlton on the Stage road Thursday afternoon with 30 ladjes present. The lesson was conducted by Miss Carlton. An In teresting talk was given by Miss Irene Downing of Hood River who is a missionary and home on a furlough from Ecuador, South America. A shower of hand tea towels was given at this meeting for Mrs. Sheley Whose home and belongings were recently destroyed by 'fire. Refresh ments were served by the hostess, assisted by the committee. Presbyterian Bible Class Meets Tuesday. The Women's Bible Claw of the First Presbyterian church will hold the first fall social meeting in the church parlors Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Chapman will be on the program and give a repetition of the dispensation given two weeks ago at the Sunday morning class meeting. Roberts returned last evening from Eugene, whore she spent the past week with her daugh ter, Dorothy, who la entering the University of Oregon for her sopho more year. Actioities of Legion Auxiliary After a very pleasant vacation the Auxiliary begins its fall work Mon day evening, September 26. The meeting will be held In the armory club rooms, promptly at 8 o'clock. Reports from all committee chair men of the year's work will be given at this meeting. Also reports from the delegates to the Portland con vention will be heard. Nominations and election of offic ers for the ensuing year will be a part of the evening's program. The Fldac doll and the memory book will be on display. They each received much favorable comment at the convention at Portland. It Is urged that all members be present Monday evening, aa many matters of Interest are to come be fore the iinlt. The welfare chairman, Mrs. Parker, requests that all who have clothing for the welfare shelf please bring them to the meeting Monday even ing. South Methodist Group Has Meet The South Methodist Women's Missionary Society met last Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. McCulston. Mra Bills had charge of the pro gram on the "Progress of Our Mis sionary Work In China. Christian stewardship waa present ed In a very interesting way by Mrs. T. G. Patterson of Myrtle Creek. Mrs. Patterson Is conference superintend ent of spiritual life and message of this northwest conference. Refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. White. . The September business meeting waa held at the home of Mrs. Taylor September 8. at which time the del egates to the conference gave their reports of that most interesting meeting. October 4 there will be an all-day meeting In the church basement with a covered dish luncheon. This meet ing will combine the business meet ing and the mission study class re view. All members and friends are urged to attend. Mrs. Mulholland Heads New Club A new club to carry on the relief work of the organization will be formed by the St. Mark's Guild, It was decided Friday at the first cafe teria luncheon of the new season. Mrs. R. C. Mulholland will head the new club. The luncheon Friday was well at tended and officers of the Guild acted as hostesses. Chrysanthemum Circle to Meet Monday The regular meeting of Chrysan themum circle, No. 84, Neighbors of Woodcraft, will meet Monday even ing, September 26, at 8 o'clock In the I. O. O. F. hall.
