Mr. Conger, in hatter's plush top hat of black and linen duster, car ried the reins and guided the horses, which lifted their heads In the grand manner to support the red tassels on their bridles. Before the surrey. In the line of march, recalling a much earlier period and the one which brought to Jack sonville all her grandeur, I. A. Dew appeared. Attired aa the pioneer prospector, he carried a gold pnn, and led a pack horse, equipped for the gold trail. The surrey, now owned by Mrs. W. H. Gore, was loaned the Orange for the parade. Kiltie Band a Hit. Vlelng with the Orange entry for the applause of the crowds, the Kiltie band of Ashland appeared with bag pipes blowing, their colorful costumes attracting much attention, this being their first official appearance in Med. ford. The line of march was headed by City Traffic Officer Qeorge J. Pres cott followed by State Police Officers William Ellenburg and Joe Polsom. who acted as- escorts. The county court and Instigators of the move ment which resulted in the present structure followed behind the Elks Grand Army of the Republic Vete rans, and the Daughtera of Union veterans were preceded by the Med ford units of the Oregon National Guard. Other patriotic organizations lrcluded the United Spanish War Veterans, the Daughters of the Ameri can Revolution, and the American Legion auxiliary. Senator Attends. Smiling and tipping his hat to his Jackson county friends, who waved greetings from the sidewalks. United Ststes Senator Frederick Stelwer took part in the parade, riding with Ben Sheldon, former state legislator. Jacksonville Orange, with Its modes of travel used to pay taxes at the three courthouses, was followed by Ashland American Legion post's Ktltle band, attired In the newest Scotch plaids. Representatives of the Salvation Army were next In line. Miss Jackson County. Miss Mary Ar'vllla Burns, was in the float which followed, and the Lions' club winner of the popularity contest, Miss Ruby e.A ma nl.n in the nrocesslon. A float, in blending' hues of yel low, arranged to resemble a large chrysanthemum, was entered by the Woodcraft Circle of that name. Occasional flurries of selling were easily absorbed, and a number of Issues closed with gains of 1 to 4 points, although the utilities as a group failed to participate appreci ably. The closing tone was firm. Turnover was only about 2.500,000 shares, the smallest In a fortnight. The market obtained little stimu lus from principal commodities, which moved narrowly, A slightly better tone In bonds, however, was encour aging.
