PXrtE TWELVE fEDFOTllJ VXTL' TRIBUNE. MEDFORD, OREGON.TRIDAT, TDLT 22, 1932, B WW ON DEAD INDIAN MARKET ROUTE Ttif county court hu started wort en tha Dead Indian market road, from the SaM Indian rummlt east; 120,000 of market road funds are available to be used In grading for a distance of tnree mllee, through a rooky and bard dirt formation. The work will last until snow files and 15 men will be employed with ma chinery on the project. ' Surrey of the Butte Falls market road will be made as soon as the state highway engineers complete the sur Teys of Portland-to-the-Sea routes. Difficulty Is being encountered In determining which of three proposed routes should be surveyed. When, and If, the survey is made, clearing will start on the Butte Falls road to prepare for road work next spring. The Dead Indian and Butte Falls market roads tap the lake and rec reational areas of eastern Jackson county. Work on the Bams Valley second ary highway from Gold Hill Is underway. The county oiler oontlnues Idle, agle Point and the Rogue River dis trict petitioned the county oourt for olUng of roads within the corporate limits, to curb the dust evil. Because of the low state of the oounty fi nances, the county court agreed to provide the oiling equipment If the pettionere would psy for the oil and labor. The petitions have reposed lu the pigeonholes since. NEW R0JETBILL WILL START FLOW OF NEEDED FUNDS (Continued fruui Page one.) tlremente from the corporation direc torate were ordered by the new law ftt the president's request. Credit Loosened Likewise, It lets the federal reserve banks, subject to spproval of the reserve board, discount eligible paper tar Individuals and corporations. When the measure was signed the president had not yet settled his dif ference with Democrats over whether It would be necessary to make publlo the corporation loans or simply send them to the house and senate each month. No ceremony accompanied presi dential approval, A W.Ute .House secretary simply summoned newspa per men and told them the bill had been signed. : CLAIMS FILED The Btate Banking department to day filed with the county clerk, as provided, a statement of claims re ceived up to July 1, in the liquida tion of the Citizen's National Bank of Ashland. Brownells arrest resulted from the startling disclosures of Robert Tall man, night watchman In the Blocum Brownell office, who finally admitted that his original story that two men had held blm up, looted the safe of the petitions, and escaped on the night of July 4, was a hoax. He con fessed, police said, that the petitions were taken by three men under a prearranged plan. Motive Unrevealed Police say the motive behind the alleged theft has not yet been re vealed and, as a matter of fact. Is at this time unknown. Nor have all details of the petition transaction been revealed by the dis trict attorney's office. From an au thoritative source, however. It hss been learned that Tallman was prom ised 81000 In cash and rsgulsr em ployment as a reward for his part In the affair. , The temptation is said to have been too great for Tallman to overcome. He Is destitute with a wife and five children to support. The story relates that at the time the petitions were removed from the safe as the first scene In the hoax play, he was offered part of the mon ey on account. Received No Money This he Is said to have refused at the time, observing that If he were warched by police after reporting the "robbery," and If the money were found on his person after he had told of having been hold up and robbed, serious and natural suspicion would be directed at bis story. As a result of this declination. It Is said Tallman has received nothing whatever. MacPherson left for his Albany home shortly after signing the com plaint. The only comment be made was: "I believe the evidence Justi fies the serving of the complaint. The whole transaction will be reveal ed In the prlllmlnary bearing of Mr. Brownell.". This hesrlng probsbly will be held early next week. Circuit Judge H. D. Norton will occupy the Klamath county bench this week and part of next, hearing law suits In which the Klamath county Judge Is disqualified. Circuit Judge I. O. Latourette of Oregon City will occupy the local bench, and Monday will start hear ing the suit of Nledermeyer, Inc., against Earl H. Fehl and the Pacific Record-Herald, for the collection of a 5000 promissory note and chattel mortgage. Roy A. Parr, game warden, awarded a 15,000 libel suit verdict, and Sher iff Ralph O.
