PAGE SIX 1EEDF0RD MAIL TRIBUNE, JEEDFORD, OREGON, FRIDAY, JULY 1, 1932. C. C. WILL SEEK 60-DAY LEEWAY AS AUIOIST AID Decisive notion by the board of dl rectora of the local Chamber of Com-1 merce regarding the extension of time mowed for the purchase of motor vehicle license was taken today at the meeting of the directorate, when it wu decided to ask the state board of control to grant a alxty-day mora torium on licenses, for the purpose of meeting conditions which are partic ularly prevalent In Jackson county. The discussion was brought to the attention of the board on account of the fact that many producers In the district, unable to pay for licens es at the present time, will be In a far better position to make their pay ments on September 1st, when pro ceeds from the sales of local fruit will be available. It was first decided to ask for the relief only for pro ducers of perishable Agricultural pro ducts, and the final action In ask ing for a sixty-day extension was tak- j en because of the fact that many la-1 borers who depend upon their cars! for transportation to and from the ; orchards would be unable to reach their work without transportation. The chamber directors also adopted the recommendations of the tax com mittee, recommending endorsement of the proposed constitutional amend ment and the tax supervising and conservation bill. The committee's re port had been submitted to the board in writing previous to the meeting, and all present had been given ample time for consideration of the meas ures. It was the prevailing opinion that these new laws offer the neces sary machinery for affecting xeal re ductions In property taxes, a project In which the local chamuer has been deeply Interested for the past two years. Other business transacted at to day's meeting included reports of the publicity and fish and game commit tees, both of which were adopted; and a brief discussion of the plan of un employment relief presented to the people of the city some ten days ago. No particular action was taken on the unemeployment problem, but the matter will be under active consider ation by the chamber from now on, was the opinion expressed by W. S. Bolger, president of the chamber. (AP The National Women's Christian Temperance Union disclaimed today any part In a third party "dry" movement at this time. If W.C. T. U. members attend a purported third party convention of drys at Indianapolis July 4 they will be present as Individuals, not as representatives of the W. C.T. U., said Mrs. Ella A. Boole, president of the national W.C.T. U. "The women of the W.C.T.U. win decide for themselves as to what political action they will take," said Mrs. Boole, "and this will be done at our national convention In Se attle August 13-19. "These two conventions have been politicians' conventions. Now will come the action of the home loving women, millions of whom abhor the attempt to restore the liquor traffic. The attempt to make It appear that women want repeal of prohtbllon la ridiculous. The party opening the door to liquor Is doomed." P6RTLAND, Ore., July 1. (AP) Reports Indicating the number of un employed next winter probably will be 30 per cent above the peak num ber of last year were received here yesterday by the state executive relief commute. Seasonal employment, re ports said, have, not offset the grow ing number of unemployed. The committee has begun a study of Information already gathered and general recommendations for organi sation of relief measures will be giv en as soon as possible. Roosevelt back from the Democratic convention's two-thirds majority. Eyes reddened from the sleepless hours that drove the heat-harrassed convention through the night to a three-ballot deadlock at daylight, leaders of the contending factions set about bolstering their lines against the Roosevet attack. A Joint caucus was called of the Texas and California delegations whose 90 votes are pledged to Speak er Oarner. So close did Roosevelt come to the 770 needed votes on the last ballot this morning that this one block of votes would put him across, but there was Indication the Garner leaders were not ready to swing their strength to the New York governor.
