RECIPE PACKET
The elimination of grating and
melting in chocolate recipes Is one
of the features of Miss Margaret
Lenore Coates' lectures and demon
strations In connection with the
Safeway Stores cooking school. "I
have found a chocolate that Is a
chocolate and that nevertheless comes
in powdered form," Miss Coates said.
"Chocolate is the refined substance
of the cocoa bean, containing all
of its natural fat," she continued,
"while cocoa Is the same substance
after most of the natural fat has
been removed. Ground chocolate
stands between the two In fat con
tent, having less than solid choco
late and more than cocoa." Miss
Coates uses OblrardelU's ground
chocolate exclusively In all her
chocolate cooking and will show Its
use In connection with the cooking
school, both for making chocolate
beverage and for other cooking and
baking uses.
As a special souvenir to those
who attend the Safeway Homemakers'
Bureau cooking school, the famous
Sweet Sixteen Recipe Packet In the
current edition will be supplied by
D. Ghlrardelll Co. for each cooking
school visitor. This recipe packet
has a romantic history In that It
was originally developed from the
long series of prize winning recipes
In the files of the D. Ghlrardelll
Co.
Miss Coates emphasized that Ghl
rardelll's ground chocolate is much
richer than cocoa and ' still not
overly rich. "This makes It pos
stble to add the chocolate with the
other dry Ingredients in baking,1
sold Miss Coates. "Being a blended
product, it has the full chocolate
flavor richly developed from va'
rlous strains of high grade cocoa
beans."
SCORES OF USES
FOR SNOW FLAKE
CRACKERS CITED
Snow Flake Sodas, It has been
remarked, play a prominent part
In the cooking school programs being
planned by the Safeway Homemakers'
Bureau for local presentation at the
Fox Rialto, commencing Wednesday
and continuing Thursday and Fri
day.
The big, red Snow Flake package
has come to be the source of no
end of culinary creations in western
homes. Margaret Lenore Coates, who
la conducting the cooking school ses
sions here, finds a lot of fascina
tion In following the fate of the
crackers from Just one Snow Flake
package.
"Do you know," she says, "That
no two crackers from that package
need be used for the same purpose!"
In explanation she points out how
one may accompany the fish cock-
tall, another may be the hors
d'ouvres, still another completes the
soup course, salads are not complete
without their complement of Snow
Flakes, the breaded chops have been
rolled In Snow Flake crumbs, the
vegetable dish may take an eacal
loped form with Snow Flakes as Its
base, the ice cream needs the bal
ance of a Snow Flake cracker or
two . . . and the list might be
lengthened out indefinitely. Wher
ever there is a need for food, there
is a place for these dellclously crisp,
salted wafers whose oven-freshness
and delicate taste have made ttiem
the daily standby of thousands of
western homemakers.
More than that, homemakers who
choose Snow Flake Sodas for their
crisp freshness, know that these
items are but a part of the dozens
of fine cookies and cakes with which
cupboard shelves are stocked against
the emergency of after-school appe
tites, afternoon teas or unexpected
guests . . . they're packaged and
always ready and best of all, varied
and always good.
