(AP) The rec ord books of the Presbyterian church In the V. B. Kerr, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, moderator of tne church, the commissioners chose Fort Worth, Tex., for the 145th assembly , next year. . He urged the negro delegation to refuse to meet "In any place wheTe a negro oan not be treat ed as a man and a brother." There was no discussion on the protest which was recorded In the assembly records. Church leaders saw la the results of the assembly sessions several out standing developments. Included were the deolslve votes of confidence given the general council and existing gov ernment of the church and the ad mission of women to the general council for the first time In the church's history. Dry Stand Affirmed The commissioners were also em phatic In their desire that the church continue relations with the federal council of churches of Christ, despite opposition from a fundamentalist group. The church reaffirmed Ita equivocal support of the 18th amend ment and opposition to attempts to repeal or nullify the prohibition laws. The assembly gave tacit approval to supervised practice of eugenics, the church holding thst "children have the right to be well bom." Sloan, a resident of Phoenix lor the put 13 year, pawed away at his home there Thursday evening at the age of 72, He waa born at Ashland. Ohio, Nov. 1, 1850 and came to Jackson county from Hal stead, Kansas. He was an ardent member of the Phoenix Presbyterian church where he served as elder dur ing hi entire re&ldenoe thee. He leaves three children, Del no Slo an and Elisabeth Carpenter of Phoe nix and Don A. Sloan of Hutchison. Kansas. One brother, A. L. Sloan of San Bernardino, Calif,, one sister, Mrs. B. It, Brewer, Hutchison, Kansas. Also six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev, Iverson at the Conger chapel at 9:00 p. m. Saturday, Entombment will follow In the Med ford memorial mausoleum. -4- PLANS CANNERY GRANTS PASS, June 8 (Spl) Masters of all Josephine county grange,, with the chairmen of the home economlos and agricultural committees of each grange have been called to a meeting at the county courthouse at 1:30 Saturday after noon to consider a canning project with County Agent Howell and Mrs. Werts, home demonstration agent. A cooperative community cannery plan will be discussed, Howell said Thursday, and if found advisable plans laid for the preservation by this means of all foodstuffs in county garden, which might otherwise go to waste this year. The proposal, Howell said Thursday morning, would be a cannery that would be moved among the commun ities, rather than one which would require each community to bring its produce to any central location. 20 CHILDREN AT , HEALTH, CLINIC A aucceAsful cllnlo was conducted at the Y. W. O. A. building yesterday for pre -school children of Med ford, according to all reports today. Under the direction of Dr. O. I. Drummond. county physician, Mlas Ruth Swan son, Medford school nurse, and Mis, Blanche Runnels, county health nurse, assisted by Mrs. Howard Hill and Mrs. Miles Oammlll, 90 children were examined. Complete physical examinations were given all to determine their fit ness to enter school, and toxin antl toxin was given several children to protect them against the germs with which they may come In contact upon entering school.
