The election won't be held until November. Can't we enjoy a little peace and sanity for a couple of months! If that is too much to expect, there must be some way at least to stop this vicious and irresponsible scandal mongering. Three such tales have been ri'n down by this newspaper and found to be made up entirely of truth in any of them. But we lation of these libellous falsehoods is still going on. WE CAN see only one way when told one of these DOWN! The primary winners easily be found. Insist that the accuser and the accused be brought together, and the matter cleared up once and for all. The energies of the entire community will be slinging it. , Swat the Imps! A LONG this line we are indebted to the Emporia (Kansas) Gazette for an excellent parable written by one Drew Warren, a well known citizen of readers that they look it over, swatting the imps, infesting this part of the country. "The devil stood on a busy Btreet corner intently watching for viotimB. Pointing to a man who had just passed, he spoke curtly to one of the little imps that surrounded him, 'Go get that man for me.' Like a flash the imp raced after the man, leaped to his shoulder and . whispered, 'You're licked!' "Why no, I am not licked," replied the man. "Oh, yes, you are, too," urged the imp. "Why I don't think I am," retorted the man. "Yes, but you are and you know it," insisted the imp. "Well, maybe you're right, I guess I am," admitted the man slowing his pace as his whole demeanor changed. With a malicious grin the little imp slid to the ground and skipped back to the corner eager to report his success to the Big Boss. "Never mind the details, we're busy," snapped the devil and pointing quickly to another irian, snarled, "Go got him for me. Give him The Works." Instantly the imp loaped to the chase and in a moment was on the man's shoulder and as before whispered, "You're licked!" "No, I'm not," the man replied with oonviotion. "Oh yes, you are, you're licked," urged the imp. "Indeed I'm not," sharply responded the man. "But you are and you know it," fairly screamed the Imp into his ear. ' "I tell you I'm not, you lie!" snapped the man squaring his shoulders and increasing his gait. Down crashed the little imp and picking himself up from the pavement slowly made his way back to the corner. "Well, what's the matter!" challenged the devil, "didn't I tell you to give him The Works!" "I did," whined the imp, "I played my strongest card too, but the man not only wouldn't believe me, but he called me a liar and that LICKED ME!" For over two years 20 million imps have been riding America's shoulders. Let's change our bait. Phoenix Church Plans Memorial Sunday Service PHOENIX, May S. Phon M w'u haul away your refuse, City Saalvarr oarric, Ye Poet's Corner Today By Arthur Brisbane A Welching Bloc, Your Silver Dollar, Rules for Wives, Two Governments, Copyright King Fi xtures Synd., Ine. It is reported seriously that England, France and Italy have united to "bar the pay ments of debts to us." They are said to have arranged what might be called a "Welching bloc" as though three book makers should agree not to pay what they owe, hoping to make the welching less unpleasant by making it co-operate. This welching plan by Eur opean friends that came hat in hand, tears in their eyes, beg ging for help in the war, may hurt them more than us. We can afford a ten billion dollar welching process if we must, whereas on future occasions the welchers may discover that de liberately swindling a good lender, with plenty more that might be lent, is not profitable. Also, there are several ways of killing a cat, and several ways of recovering a debt. Some day a forceful American government may reveal some methods of debt recovery to the "welching bloc." Mr. Mills, secretary of the treasury, Issues the ' first SI bills with his signature. Like other ,61 bills, they raise an Important question. Take a one dollar bill and read on It In large type, under a picture of Oeorge Washington, "ONE SILVER DOLLAR." Nothing is said about gold, It's a SILVER dollar. Yet that silver dollar with Uncle Sam's name on It Is worth one hun dred cents, whereas government OOLD BONDS seU below par. A government bond la the govern ment's promise to pay you the face value of th bond IN OOLD of at th present standard of weight and fineness. Your dollar bill Is nothing but silver plus the country's name, and tt la worth more than the bond. To the average citizen who knows no more about finance than the average high financier, this Indicates that Uncle Sam, If he chose, could flnanoe his affairs without going to the bankers that he has created, say ing "Won't you please lend me a lit tle money, at high Interest rates." In England, a gentleman waa ac cused of enticing . away another man's' wife. The husband sued. The learned Juatlo McCardle decided against him, saying among other things: "I must tell you that a wo man's body does not belong to the husband. It Is her own property; It Is not his. A woman can leave her husband by her own free will. She may choose her own occupation. She may take her own political party. She may profess her own separate religious creed. She may decide whether ah will bear children or not, and she may decide when each child ahall be born. The married woman of this country has gained .her freedom. That sounds radical for an Eng lish Justice. Another learned British Jurist, Sir Thomas Edward Scrutton, reversed the opinion of Justice McCardle who is a bachelor saying: "If there la to be a discussion of the proper rela tion of husband and wife I think It had better come from Judgea who hav mor than a heoretlcal knowl edge of such relations." Th opinion that a British wife owns and can control herself Is startling, In England, where until recently there had been no change 1 In th ruling that said that a hue- ; band might beat his wife providing 1 he used a stick no bigger round than his thumb, I Her tn America' w hav what ! might be called a conservative gov- ernment by high finance and big corporations. And In New Zealand TWO OUT OF THREE WORKMEN ARE IDLE Th worker r nbelllng against their govern ment, and ar In miserable condi tion. In a depression any kind of icwmment may be th wrong kind. - Mr. Corbett, chief architect of the 1M Chicago world a fair, and on of th architects of th Rockefeller Center, says th country will soon b dotted with small houses sold ready made, like suits of clothes for "Nomadlo America." Th condition may com so soon aa to surprise Mr. Corbett, for production of such houses Is now In excellent competent hand. An American family want three things, a house to live In, a car to drive In, a garage for the car. Ninety- nine out of a hundred Americans would rather have a two room house and a four, six, or an eight cylinder car, than a twenty-room house and no automobll. Wall Street was sad again yester day, prlcea sagging. That part of th world reminds you of the gentle man whose wife persusded htm' to take castor oil, promising him a lit tle rye whisky after It. He was fond of rye whisky, and yielded, but from that time on, he could never touch It, because It reminded him of castor oil. Some cltlzena are fond of stock speculation, but cant bear to touch It now, because It reminds them of 1929. The Filipinos, preparing for the day of "deliverance" from the United States, plan to buy out Japanese land owners. They say Japanese owners are willing to sell. However, It might not be a good buy for the Filipinos, If they are really to be delivered from Uncle Sam's cruel grip. If Uncle Sam should depart, the Japanese would come In, having good use for the Philippines, and the real estate purchases might not be prof itable. Mrs. Amelia Earhart Putnam, the first woman that ever flew the ocean alone, gets "a distinguished flying cross" from the senate unanimously. She deserves It. Per haps there are other systemic factors which retard or Impair the healing process. But it Is idle to Imagine that "poor blood" accounts for delay In the healing of ordinary cuts, wounds or minor Injuries. What do you mean by "poor blood"? I hope not what the nostrum exploiters would have gullible customers be lleve. When anyone springs this question on me, and some one does every day. I neatly evade by asking another question, namely, what have you used by way of remedy or treatment? Not that I am at all curious about that. On the contrary I am indif ferent, for no matter what you have put on the little wound or Injury I know the treatment is only a neces sary evil at best and a handicap up on the healing process as a general rule. Having found out what first aid dressing and subsequent treatment you have given the Injury. I am In a position to explain, at least to my own satisfaction, why the healing Is so slow in your case. Do you begin to comprehend? , No, I suppose not. Well, I'll do my best to make It clear, though I am not at all certain you will get It, for that depends on your reception. For many years our research work ers have sought antiseptics or germi cides which will actually hamper the multiplication and growth of germw In the living tissues and at the same time not seriously harm the delicate young tissue cells which must multi ply and grow to form the new tissue in any healing process. Nearly every spring, about the time the new fash Ions In clothing and headgear are brought out, a remarkable new anti septic Is Introduced to the profes sion and the public, and the new antiseptic always has extraordinary power to dispose of germs and vet none of the harmful effects on tls-j sues that all preceding nostrums! have had as we learn a season or two after they are launched. I am not a pessimist, yet I tninK i the antiseptic which will apreclablyl hamper germ life in the body tissues without harming the tissues In com parable degree will be discovered when perpetual motion is discovered. Mean while I am quite content to apply mJ 0 NEWSPAPER, the size of the Mail Tribune, in the entire west can show such a volume of rural news. Only ABC Brady, M. D. EAL SO SLOWLY some lodin to any scratch, out or other minor Injury, cover or protect the wound from subsequent contam ination, and forget It. Salves and lotions are excellent in the treatment of wound complica tions, and had better be left to the skill of the physician. Every time you "dress" wound you give the natural healing process a setback. Today when a surgeon believes the wound is once clean, sterile, he leaves It undisturbed for a week or two, and that Insures the most perfect healing. This, then, Is my answer to the query "Why do things heal so slowly in my case?" Probably because you put so many things on the little le sion, and then take 'em off again. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Old Dan Druff. I am 33 years old and have had dandruff ever since I can remember. I am blonde, and It doesn't show so much as it does on dark hair, but I would like to get rid of it. Miss T. O. F. Answer The best treatment Is a course of sulphur inunctions. This self-treatment is tedious, but It gives more lasting benefit than any other remedy. Send a stamped envelope bearing your address and ask for In structions, mentioning your trouble. Occasional application of a solution of 10 grains of resorcln in one ounce of alcohol or your favorite toilet water, a few drops rubbed into the scalp night and morning, will con trol the trouble fairly well in many cases, though resorcln may stain very blonde or gray hair a reddish-yellow after prolonged use. Orifices Are Outlets. Are there minute openings In the human skin called "pores"? If this Is not true, how does the persnlra- tlon penetrate through the skin? Can you explain why dictionaries and home medical books define pores as minute orifices In the skin? R. C. Answer The only openings or ori fices In the skin are the outlets of the sebaceous and sweat glands. Per spiration does not penetrate through the skin. Sweat flows out through the orifices of the sweat glands. Dictionary makers and home medical book writers do not know what they are talking about, if they imply that anything can enter the body through the pores. Neither do coroners or physicians who offer such an explana tion for fatal poisonings, such as shoe dye poisoning. Trouble with a lot of these political accidents Is they Imagine their bald assertions make a thing so and this same ailment Is prevalent among our medical pro fessors and would-be medical autnor- lties.
