Rewuch work on pears U going on
In several field, under the auspice.
ox the Oregon -Washington rear bu
ruu, according to David H. Boien
berg, president.
'This la the logical time to do re
search work the first of the year of
our program, ' says Mr. Rosenberg,
"When we know the vitamin con
tent of peara, work on which la go
ing on at the Oregon Medical school,
and the nutritional value, which la
being Investigated at the experiment
station at Oregon State college, we
have a basis upon which to build our
advertising, mil la particularly en-
sentlal now, when housewives have to
keep down the cost of meals yet at
the aame time want to keep the diet
on a healthful basis."
, In addition to the experiment on
the physical properties of peara be
lng worked out at the Oregon Med
ical school and Oregon State college,
a test-out is underway In eight east
ern cities to find out the public re-
action to baked pears and pear pie.
Through the international Steward
Magazine, where the bureau has run
some advertising this past season to
further the use of pears In hotels
and restaurants, a survey was ar
ranged by the magazine. Ten boxes
of peara were allowed each of the
following hotels, who are to report
tneir nncings: The statler hotels in
Buffalo. Cleveland and Detroit: the
Harvard Club, Boston; Mai Hard's.
Chicago; Brie cafe, Philadelphia; Wil
liam Perm hotel, Pittsburgh, and
American-Annex hotel, St. Louis. The
hotel in St. Louis has asked for an
additional quantity, and Is serving
them at civic luncheons at the pres
ent time.
In Boston, the Harvard club spread
the ten boxes furnished them among
a number of hotels. Including the
Hotel Beaconafteld, John Hancock
Mutual Life Insurance company res
taurant, Hotel Statler, Algonauln
elub. Hotel Vendome, Engineers club,
Chamber of Commerce restaurant, and
Exchange club. Another Boston ho
tel became Interested through an ad
vertisement In the International
steward, and his written In for In
formation. When all the data Is
gathered, the Steward's magaclne will
use It as the basis for an article.
