dlfltricU of the Middle West, average
production per acre doesn't exceed
seven and one-half tons.
Here In the Rogue River valley,
average production over all the years
of which there Is a record runs
around FIFTEEN tone per acre and
this summer, which gives promise of
being an unusually good year, It Is
anticipated that average production
will run around eighteen tons.

TpiIE Rogue River valley Is the out-
standing pear district of Oregon.
It Is one of Vie outstanding pear dis
tricts of the United States. Because
of Its pears, It Is world famous.
But the Rogue River valley doesn't
want to be a one-crop district. It
needs diversification If it Is to be
unbrokenly prosperous, year In and
year out.
' This swiftly growing tomato In
dustry offers fine opportunities for
added diversification,

BUSINESS EXPERT i DENTISTS TO HOLD
Eighty per tnt of the business
failures In the United BUtes in 1031
were due to lack ot capital, In a
greet many cases caused by frozen
assets resulting from unwise credits,
Prank T. Caldwell, field secretary of
the National Retail Credit associa
tion, here from Bt. Louis, told the
orowd of 60 merchants and profes
sional men gathered at the Hotel
Medford for luncheon today noon.
Mr, Caldwell's address was directed
to those extending credits and was
aimed to encourage the exchange of
Information for the mutual benefit
of all concerned.
Credit has been too easily obtained
during the past several years, he in
formed his audience. The people of
the country have made unlimited
purchases, which they were unable
to liquidate to any Important por
tion. The merchants of today, for the
most part, he explained, are selling
credits instead of merchandise. There
is too much competition among mer
chants on the basis of credits. Be
fore any accounts are accepted the
buying habits of purchasers are ab
solutely essential, Mr. Caldwell made
It emphatic to his listeners, and In
conclusion urged all merchants In
Medford to realize and utilize the
benefits of co-operation In exchange
of credit Information.
Lou Corbett of the Western Auto
Suppply Co. led the singing of songs,
and O. B. McMath of the Simons
French company was official pianist
for the luncheon hour.
Members of the Medford Dental
Study club will motor to Klamath
Palls tomorrow for ft meeting with
the Lake view and Klamath Kalis soci
eties. Banquet will be served at the
Willard hotel In the evening and will

Have you ever stopped to consider
how much electricity does for you
every day and how little it asks in re
turn. Nearly every one of the dozens
of jobs electricity performs in the
modern home may be paid for with
pennies. Waffles for the whole family,
for instance, can be made for only a
few cents. A toaster costs even less to
operate and coffee can be made for
only a fraction of a cent a cup. When
you consider these really insignificant
costs, what money you spend brings
greater return in comfort and con
venience? Just think it over! .
