Winding of the Maypoles. There are three of these Maypoles, with ribbons of different colors. Along the walls of the boys' gym, where the festival Is to be held, will be an art exhibit from several of the grade schools. The children participating In the May Day festival have had weeks and week of bard practloe to make the program effective. Miss Carln Degermark and Mlas Harriett Bald win are supervising tomorrow's en tertainment, and Miss Louise Hollen- back has charge of the art exhibit. Poppies Going To France For Soldier Graves A large shipment of popples, made by disabled American World war vet erans, la now on It way to Prance to be placed on the graves of the Amer ican war dead on Memorial day. The flowers have been sent to the Amer ican Legion poet In Paris, which will supervise their placing. Paul Claudel, Prench ambassador to the United States, received the flowers officially In the name of the Trench republlo at recent oeremonlea In Washington, D. C. The presenta tion was made by Mrs. Frederick O. Williams of Tuckahoe. N. T national president of the auxiliary, acting for the disabled veterans of America. : The popples are the same as those being made by disabled veteran In the government hospital at Portland, Ore., which the women of Medford American Legion auxiliary will sell May ao-ai, to be worn In honor of the war dead. JUVENILES' FATE William Benford and Frederick White, both 17, alleged members of the "boy burglar gang" operating In this city the past month, were given hearing this morning before Juve nile Court Judge 0. B. Lamkln. They were ordered remanded to the county Jail until a decision was reached In their case. The pair are claimed to have operated with Olen Hanscom and Clifford Clark, both 10, who ap peared before Circuit Judge Norton Tuesday. Their cases were taken un der advisement for 80 days. Friend this morning Interceded for the youths. They were described as "good boys." Evan Crow, a youth often In the Juvenile court and paroled, was sched uled for appearance In circuit court late today for alleged thefts. County authorities are now taking the position that youthful offenders ahould be dealt with more harshly, a paroles granted over a two-year period have failed to yield expected reformations. Benford and White, with Hanscom and Clark, were charged with burglary. FIFER TO RETAIN In the final block of the David R. Wood-Reginald Flfer billiard tour nament for the holder of the Gott lieb trophy, held at the Elks' temple last evening, Piter , the defender. came out victorious, with 300 plonts against wood's ass. Although Wood took the first block Monday night ISO to 134 points, n was unable to keep the same lead last night In hi attempt to become guardian of the award. Internal revenue oollector, with head quarters in the Federal building here, left today for Orants Pas, where he will spend a week on business, HEALTH CUP FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS The Health Honor Roll Inspection cup, warded etch year Jn the Med ford aytm to the school which bu carried out the greatest number of health habit, went to Roosevelt school this afternoon, when the com pletion of another year In health work was celebrated at each grade school In the city. The banner, awarded the school with the greatest number of pupils on the health honor roll, was presented Washington school. The presentation was made by Mlsi Ruth Swartson, school nurse. Each pupil on the health honor roll re ceived one of the colorful honor roll pins and Ice cream was given the children In the four schools as a special treat with their fourth holi day, which followed the program. The program, planned for presen tation In the city park, was cancelled because of the rainy weather, which has softened the sod to such a degree that the trampling of a crowd would prove very Injurious. POLLING PLACES BE IS LEADER OF GIRLS Margaret Warner wae elected presi dent of the Girls' league for the coming year yesterday afternoon at a league meeting. Irma Nledermeyer won the vloe presldency race, Marjorle Paley was elected secretary, and Elizabeth Ferry was placed In the treasury position The presidential voting was the closest that has ever been recorded In any Girls league election. Polling places for the May primary will be selected next Tuesday, at a meeting of the county court. The state law requires they be formally selected 10 days before the election. There will be, from present Indi cations, few changes In either city or country from the last general election. In this city, the North Main precinct bwrth will be moved from Flchtner's Oarage, across Sixth street, to the Hotel Holland. E STAY IN PRISON Raleigh Mattnews, widely known resident of the Eagle Point district, sentenced to serve two years In state prison upon conviction of liquor vio lations In connection with the raid ing of a still on Reese creek In 1030, which ended with the traglo death of Everett Dahack. a kinsman, was paroled from the penitentiary April 1. Matthews returned to this valley and la now engaged In farming on his place In the Eagle Point dis trict. Matthews served ten months of a two-year sentence. His first appli cation for parole was disapproved by the parole board following protests submitted by local authorities and citizens. No protests were filed on the second appeal. Matthews has been more or less In the courts of Jackson county for several years. Dur ing his incarceration In the "big house. he was a model prisoner and enjoyed special privileges, being en gaged largely In outdoor farm work. Evidence at the trial of Matthews showed that he was among those present when the raiders swooped down on the Ree&e creek still and bis attempted flight resulted In the firing of the shot that ended In the death of Dahack. It Is understood that Frank Ben nett, serving three years from this county upon conviction for a statu tory offense Involving a 18-year old girl, will make application at the May meeting of the state parole board. freshMfalls New snow has fallen In the higher levels.
