E SHOWS INTEREST IN (By Gertrude Haak) Pomona Grange quarterly meeting at Rogue River April 33, had more than 300 present during ths after noon session. Discussion of various questions be fore the house proved beyond a doubt that our members are visualizing more and more the real purpose of the Grange. National, state and lo cul affairs; social, economic and edu cational conditions, all came In for their ahare of Interest. The Grange works to "create a bet ter manhood and womanhood among ourselves" and to this end must In terest Itself In civic social, economic; and educational questions. One resolution has the Grange convey to the merchants of Jackson county Its appreciation of the co operation shown In backing a home Industry fostered by the Grange, through promoting the sale of La dino oheese. Another highly commends the Red Cross and first aid work In connec tion with the state police force, and to express our appreciation to the men of the police force for their willingness In undertaking this work, which we feel will be of great value to the state of Oregon and the mot oring public. The Grange favored a lowered and graduated lloenss fee (according to age of car) for motor vehicles; they urge a committee to organize a stren uous campaign for a greater use of home products and a lesser use of shipped In products, to the advant age of both the producer and tha consumer. One of the principles of the Grange Is to eliminate the mid dleman as much as possible. A lengthy but Interesting docu ment, purporting to represent the principles of the Orange In Its de mands upon all publlo servants, re ceived its share of discussion, and was finally turned over to a special committee for rearrangement and condensing. The personnel of the committee Is A. 8. Edwards, George A. Andrews and R. E. Kealon. The lecture hour program In charge of Mra. Lei a Shepard, was particular ly Interesting and entertaining. Among the numbers given were tumbling acta by the Misses Love of Rogue River, piano duets by two young ladles of Rogue River whose names we did not learn, readings by Mr. Cullen of Enterprise Orange, a talk on home economic extension service plans, by Mrs. Mable Mack and an exhibition of Red Cross first aid work as given by state police In automobile or other accidents en countered on ths highways, given with lecture by five members of the state police. This number was par ticularly Instructive and showed one phase of state police work with which the publlo la generally unacquainted. A special meeting will be held In the near future to confer the fifth degree on a class of candidates. Past State Master Oeorge A. Palm Iter was present and his many friends again enjoyed bis hearty handclasp. The Live Oak Orange ladles outdid themselves In providing a wonderful dinner for over two hundred hungry peopie. The writer Inadvertantly overheard a member of the state police staff say, "These Grangers sure are good cooks." Both the dining room and the auditorium of the high school where the business sessions were held were profusely decorated with lilacs and other spring flowers. 'rue next meeting will be held at Phoenix. July 33. 4- PORTLAND, Ore., April 27.
