By H.rhert W. Marker, (Associated Press Sports Writer.) NEW YORK, April 13 JPy-Eight National league baseball clubs have been winning league gamea on paper for two months or more. Today, with a little cooperation from the weather man, they'll see If It's Just as easy to win them on the ball field. Some 120.000 parsons were expected at the four opening games In New York, Brooklyn, Cincinnati and St. Loula. The opening schedule was: Pittsburgh Pirates at at. Louis Cardinals. Chicago Cuba at Cincinnati Reds. Boston Bravea at Brooklyn Dodgers. Phillies at New York Olants. Hot Hare Looms. Whatever the final result of the pennant drive that ends September 35, the league looks forward now to one of the most Interesting races In Its long history. By trade and pur chase, all eight clubs have strength ened weak spots In defense or of fense until It appears that not one can be used as a convenient etepplng stone for such outstanding pennant contenders as the world champion Cardinals, the Olante or Cubs. Perhaps the Cardlnale deserve to be rated aa heavy favorttea to win their third straight pennant, but some observers believe the champions will feel the loss of Burleigh Crimes, vet eran right-handed pitcher, and Out fielder Ohlck Hafey, league batting champion In 1931. Few Changes. Except for the pitching ataff, the Cardinals, Olants and Cubs start the season with only one change apiece In their lineups. The Cardinals will have Jimmy Collins In the outfield In place of Hafey: the Olants will use Len Xoenecke In left field at least when opposed by a right-handed pitcher: and the Cubs will place Stan ley Hack at third base. The Phillies' principal addition Is Outfielder Oeorge. Davis, while the Bravea count on Art 0hlres at first base and Frit Knothe on third. GREENSBORO, N. C, Aplrl 13. AP) A near riot during which guns were brandished by participants, but not used, broke up an American Le gion meeting last night when - a friend of National Commander Henry L. Stevens, took exception to the Legionnaires' criticism of Stevens for his stand against cash bonus pay menta. The friend, whose Identity was not learned, was rushed by the Legion naires when he branded aeveral of the evening's speakers "Hare." It was wltfi difficulty that police restored order and escorted the man to safety. No arrests were made. Prior to the meeting service men staged a parade through the business district, carrying banners demanding cash, At the court house the assem bly heard Harold Da Coe of Wash ington, national commander In chief of the Veterana of Foreign Wars, and James E. Van Zandl of Altoona, Pa., Junior vice commander, urge that pressure be brought to secure action by congress on the ca&h payment pro posal. A resolution to this effect was adopted. E. EAGLE POINT, Ore., April 12. (8pl.( At a meeting of the school baseball players. It was decided that the team would enter the field as a high school team and not take part In the Junior Legion baseball competi tion, as the age limit was raised by the Legion. The Eagle Point team will have practically the same material aa last year with the addition of three strong players. Young, walton and Myers. Bids have already been received for games. Butte Falls, Sams Valley and Gold Hill high schools will ap pear on the schedule.. A game at Same Valley April IS, wltjh a return game here April 33, Is being planned.
