CASE HURRIED ON
BY JUDGE NORTON
Attorneys In the damage suit of
George M. Becker against Alex An
derson and Bill Gibson, of the Ivy
Street market, were cautioned by the
court khla morning not to be so
minute in their questioning of wit
nesses about trivial matters and to
eliminate detail questioning, in or
der to complete the trial by evening.
Becker Is suing for 815,000 m the re
sult of a fight with the defendants
last November. The defendants coun
ter with a suit for 96000 each.
The cautioning of the court came
when Attorney Don Newbury started
to query Herbert Hunsaker, a wit
ness, about what became of the bal
ance of a gallon of liquor. Hunsaker
said he "confiscated" it after the
fracas and the next day gave Becker
a drink from a pint bottle.
Disparity between the weight of
Becker and the two defendants, and
the allegation that Anderson held a
cleaver and Gibson a butcher knife,
when the fight ended, as stressed
by the plain U5f in cross examination
of Hulsaker, who testified he was a
friend of all concerned. He testified
that he had tried to take the cleaver
from Anderson. The cleaver was an
exhibit at the trial.
The defense opened late yesterday
after Medford policemen and Dr. L.
D. Inskeep and the plaintiff had tes
tified. Gibson was called to the
stand In his own behalf this morn
ing and told the story of the battle,
which centered largely around a gal
lon of moonshine.
The court Indicated a special ef
fort would be made to complete the
case today for deliberation by a Jury
with live women members.
