Seventeen million cattle are to be changed to thirty-four million cattle, and so with pigs and sheep as rapidly aa nature can do the work. Every farmer knows that tt Is not much of a task. Our own government made such experiments on a small scale, with one thousand reindeer planted In Alaska, changed suddenly to thirty thousand reindeer. But we do these things fancifully, and fitfully. The Russian government proposes to produce enough beef, mutton and pork for every man, woman and child In Russia, and to see that the Rus sians get It, and eat It Such an arrangement may be "bolshevlsm" and "communism" but perhaps those things are better than not enough beef, mutton or pork. After twenty-three days of Intensive search there Is, unhappily, no news of the Lindbergh child. The state police of New Jersey report their fi nancial resources depleted, the search having cost the police a good deal more than the fifty thousand dollars that the kidnapers are supposed to have demanded. That however Is completely unimportant. The number of days that have passed are not entirely discouraging It may well be that the kidnapers, having taken the child to a secure hiding place where It can be properly cared for without danger of detection, will wait until the excitement dlea down and then deal directly with the stolen boy'a father. Outstanding Cast Headed by O'Brien In Craterian Hit (Hv Jark lift law) When man's living depends upon his keeping his features unmarred and in their right places, It takes considerable nerve to risk getting himself damaged. Yet George O'Brien laughs at the danger, Ignoring the consequences and continues dally to risk his neck while serving thrills for the camera. For example, a scene In "The Gay Caballero." his latest Fox action melodrama, which Is showing today and tomorrow at the Fox Craterian theater. In which Victor McLaglen. Conchlta Montenegro and Linda Watklns are also Important support ing stars, depicts him driving a high powered car Into a Mexican village to prevent a drunken band of ruthless vaqueroj from looting the place. The action called for Conchtta to accompany George, and for the car to oe moving at a high rate of speed In order to furnish the required realism. With Miss Montenegro sitting bravely beside him, they charged down upon the cameras only to re ceive word from Director Alfred Worker that the action was too slow, "Will you please step out, Con chlta," George asked the charming young lady from Spain. Conchlta did as she was told. With everything all set for the big "Take." George gave the huge car a, wide open throttle and thundered Into the street at a terrific rate. As he whirled the corner called for In the action, the front wheels hit a mud hole and skidded out of con trol into a bank of loose earth. Cameramen anticipating the careen ing Juggernaut, fled for safety Just in time to escape the smash as the machine mowed through two cameras and craBhed Into a brick wall.
