DESPITE ATTEMPT
TO BOOST VALUES
PORTLAND, Oct. 18, (AP) There
was so changa In tba general aelllng
price on eggs In Portland for the day
despite the attempt of Interested cold
storage speculative parties to force
higher values for fresh stock of which
they handle but a nominal supply.
Offering of higher prices for fresh
eggs than they are being openly sold
at here waa reported as an attempt
to jolt the Co-ops. of Oregon but the
plan failed with the Paclflo organi
sation gaining new members each
week.
Reports current In the trade In
dicate that on Interest was taking a
loss- of many thousands of dollars In
an attempt to undermine cooperative
marketing "I eggs In Oregon.
While there was no general price
change on the open market for either
cube of print butter during the day,
strength Is reflected In all offerings
with quotations maintained,
, Maltenance of live chicken prices
is generally reported by the commis
sion trade as well as by killers In
spite of the government news market
ing service suggesting slow market.
The only slowness appears In spring
er stuff. Other lines are steady to
firm at late advances.
Market for dressed turkeys Is a
trifle soft for the sort of stock gen
erally arriving. Hens are quoted down
to 380 generally with smalt young
toms around 27-280 and larger birds
14 lbs. and up, at maximum of
320.
RECEIPT OF EGGS ON
BAM PRANOISOO, Oct. 18. (AP)

week, the federal-state market newa
said today. The decline was 8J7 per
cent.

Hamburger and Mushrooms
I just happened on this accidentally. When you say mushrooms, you usually think
think of a very expensive T-bone steak but the hamburger is a lot better.
A mushroom salesman came in the other day and asked us to open up the can and
try them. I took them into the kitchen, fried a little hamburger (loose not in cakes)
using half butter and half lard. When the hamburger was brown I took it out
browned a little flour in the fryings, then put the mushrooms in. When they were
brown I put the hamburger back and browned them a little more, stirring them to
gether. Several folks tested it, and bought hamburger and mushrooms to take home.
Maybe you would like to try it. Mushrooms aren't expensive now neither is the
hamburger. BILL.
