Mrs. Frank Meyers and son, Ivan,
returned Monday from a two weeks'
visit with relatives in San Fran
cisco. When nearly an inch of rain fell
here the first of the week, It did
not reach the districts of Beagle
and Sams Valley to the north and
west, where not enough rain fell
to settle the dust-. .
Some damage by rain resulted to
the third cutting of alfalfa which
was being harvested on several farms.
C. W. Sage has building material
on the ground, ready to begin the
construction of an addition to bis
dwelling house.
Picking of all varieties of pears,
excepting Winter Nellts will be com
pleted here during the next few
days.
Several small bands of wild geese
have been lighting In the fields
here since the storm and Is claimed
by some of our weather prophets
to be a sign of an early winter.
Some half dozen children In this
district, eligible to attend high school
are remaining at home on account
of the depression, it is said.
Mrs. M. B. Duggan of Sams Valley
was a visitor here this week. Mrs.
Duggan has just finished building
a new burn and expects to build a
dwelling house this fall.

Montana. Quoting the Richland
County Leader, "A heavy hail storm
passed through the north Enid coun
try last Saturday afternoon, accom
panied by a heavy wind which did
much damage. The hall stones broke
the windows out and knocked shin
gles off the buildings. The next
day there still remained hail stones
that measured five Inches around -Chickens,
turkeys and small stock
were killed and the larger stock
had welts on them as large as a

daily range, 47. There was no rain
fall during the month' and there
were 27 clear days with 4 partly
cloudy. The precipitation for this
season was 17.44 inches. Rainfall
for September 6 and 7 was .56 or
an Inch.

to Art Campbells
Announcements have been received
in this city of the birth of a son to
Mr. and Mrs. A. R. (Art) Campbell,
Jr., formerly of Medford, now of Port
land.
The little boy, who arrived Septem
ber 7 at the Wilcox hospital, has been
named Gregory Templeton and weighs
seven pounds, 11 ounces.
Mrs. Campbell is remembered as
the former Miss Erma Templeton,
sister of Miss Viola Templeton of this
city.

been spending the past two weeks

the wedding of a friend, returned
to Medford today. While In the
southern city she also visited her
sister. Miss Edith Thorbus, who plans
to enter Mary's Help Hospital, where
she Is to take a post-graduate course
in surgery. Miss Thorbus has been
visiting in San Francisco for the
past two months.

in Washington, D. C, says In his
column, "at the national capital:
"Medford, Oregon, is advertised
these days by the. push-cart ped
dlers on. Pennsylvania avenue In
the vicinity of the peace monu
ment. Some fruit commission house
received a shipment of Rogue River
valley pears, for this is the fruit
contained In the Medford boxes.
After the peara are tastefully ar
ranged on the push cart, the peddler
uses a box as a seat. The fruit looks
attractive and the peara sell for
nickel each, and are worth It.
Inquiry revealed that none of the
push-cart brigade knew anything
about- Medford or where it was
located. They never heard of Ore
